MANILA, NOVEMBER 21, 2010 (MANILA STANDARD) Thousands of Global Pinoys come together in three different countries to see Showtime cast and other Kapamilya stars
The Filipino Channel (TFC), in its continuous commitment to reach, connect and bring cheer to Filipinos worldwide, mounted record-breaking events in three different countries recently.
The United States, Australia and Japan were prime destinations for TFC as it keeps bringing flavors of the homeland on-air and on-ground to the millions of Global Filipinos there. The huge crowd support and reactions were so overwhelming that TFC is already planning to return to these places at the soonest possible time.
On Sept. 12, nearly 10 thousand people came to California's Great America to join the grandest annual Filipino event in the U.S. West Coast to date, One Kapamilya Go! (OK Go!) 2010. The theme park was practically transformed into a Filipino town as thousands of loyal TFC viewers and their families and friends, braved the heat and reserved their seats early for the day's main events.
It was the first time that TFC brought the popular noontime show Showtime! to the U.S. and the program surprisingly exceeded crowd expectations. From the wacky fun-loving cast composed of Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Kim Atienza, Teddy Corpuz and Jugs Jugueta, to the shriek-inducing popular love team of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson and the amazing voice of Pilipinas Got Talent winner Jovit Baldovino, all the way to the mesmerizing dance moves of the winners of America's Best Dance Crew, the JabbaWockeeZ, the spectacular show delighted attendees who were looking forward to the most star-studded and happiest live show ever. Looking at the smiling faces of the Filipino-American "madlang people," it would seem like they all gave OK Go! a rating of "10."
Moving closer to home, TFC brought OK Go! to Japan. Held at the Nisshou Hall, in Tokyo on Sept, 20, One Kapamilya Go! 2nd Wave featured Kapamilya comedy and music. Contemporary heartthrobs Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby plus timeless matinee idol Gabby Concepcion provided musical entertainment while comedienne Kakai Bautista brought endless laughter to the crowd.
Time-travelling to the 1980s, Gabby sang the classic "Come What May" with Kakai spoofing his ex-wife Megastar Sharon Cuneta. Gabby sent hearts aflutter not just with his singing but also when he danced with members of the audience.
Capping its 16th anniversary, TFC brought Kapamilya stars to the Land Down Under. Dubbed TFC Live! Down Under, two nights of rib-tickling Pinoy stand-up comedy, high-energy dance numbers and heart-melting love songs filled the cities of Sydney and Melbourne in Australia on Sept. 24 and 25.
Breaking attendance records in both venues, the show presented Dance Princess Maja Salvador who captivated Fil-Aussies with her stunning beauty and remarkable talent; The Voice Jed Madela who performed songs from his albums that have made him one of the most popular vocalists in the Philippines today and adding more spice and laughter to the event was the return to Australia of the marvelous comedian Chokoleit whose biting wit and spot-on punch lines really tickled the funny bones of the Fil-Aussie crowd.
The Sydney show featured Jasmine Biala, a promising singer who's been singing in front of audiences since she was seven, while the Melbourne show showcased the talent of 11-year old singing sensation and one of the Top 100 acts in Australia's Got Talent Vanessa Cox.
As a leader in mounting top-quality Filipino events worldwide, TFC is once again grateful to the overwhelming support of Filipino communities, sponsors and government agencies in the three countries who all contributed to the success of its month-long celebration.
According to ABS-CBN Corporate Affairs head Jeff Remigio, "Through grand events like these, spread across the globe, we are able to reach out not just to our TFC subscribers but also to the many Filipinos who have chosen to live abroad and hopefully, even in our own small way, bring them closer to the Philippines once again."
