DOLPHY / AT HERITAGE VIEWING

MANILA, JULY 16, 2012 (INQUIRER) By: Fat Reyes - I don't know if
I will be able to let go of Dolphy," Zsa Zsa Padilla, the common-law wife, said
in an interview with reporters Thursday at the public viewing of Dolphy's
remains at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
"I have a lot of friends who went through the same loss of a mother, of a
father, of a partner, and sabi nila it really just gets harder," Padilla added.

Padilla said that members of their family were having a hard time but that
they were trying their best to cope with the loss of a loved one.
"Alam ninyo the past few years nakasentro ang aming mga schedule at lakad kay
Dolphy. Pag magbabakasyon kami talaga namang iniisip namin kung kailangan naming
bumalik. Kadalasan nakikiusap kami sa family member kung pwedeng magbantay kung
kailangan naming ng konting break," Padilla said.
"Naninibago kami na hindi na naming kailangan i-consider yung ganong bagay,"
she added.
Padilla said that Dolphy tried his best to mouth the words "I love you" to
her during his last hours. She said that up to the last minute, she was being
"makulit" with Dolphy by saying "Lovie, lovie, I love you."
She said that she knew that Dolphy did not want to let go for he loved his
family and the Filipino people.
" Alam ko yung pagkatao niya talaga kaya nga hirap na hirap siyang umalis sa
mundo dahil sa sobrang pagmamahal," she said.
"Kaya palagi naming sinasabi lovie okay lang kami huwag mo kaming intindihin.
I know that up there in heaven you will guide us. Nararamadaman ko naman yun na
ituturo niya kami,yung mga mahal niya sa buhay sa tamang direksyon," Padilla
said.
Padilla said that she continued to say goodnight to Dolphy and that Dolphy
was blessed to have a wonderful children and family members who loved him
dearly.
She said that the members of the family drew strength from one another during
the trying times.
"We're constantly texting each other and assuring each other that we will
always be around for each other," Padilla said.
She said that though it was still hard to accept what happened, the family
would try its best to move forward.
""I think It's a process. Kung kailangan mag grieve counsel gagawin naming as
a family," she said.
She described her relationship with Dolphy as an "unconventional" one and
that if there was one thing she wished Dolphy could have done, it would be to
"travel to Hongkong."
"Wala namang pinagsisishan kung hindi siguro mga wish pa . He wanted to go to
Hongkong to travel and eat," she said.
She said that she was truly grateful for the Filipino people for the
overwhelming love and support for the family.

Shower Of Tributes For An Extraordinary Man
MANILA, Philippines — Praises for an extraordinary man, the anguish
of a family struggling to cope with loss, an outburst that disturbed an
otherwise solemn occasion.
The wake for movie great Dolphy played out like a typical Pinoy telenovella
last Friday.
Dolphy's friends and associates in showbusiness once again turned out in full
force at the Heritage Park funeral homes in Taguig City to reminisce and to pay
tribute.
Dolphy, whose real name is Rodolfo Quizon, will be buried at 2 o'clock this
Sunday, six days after he succumbed to lung and kidney complications.
His death left a country in mourning. Malacañang proclaimed last Friday a Day
of Remembrance in honor of the actor.
Dolphy has been extolled in eulogies and tributes by friends and associates.
Thousands of his fans mourned his passing.
The most prominent visitor at Heritage Friday night was another film idol and
Dolphy's close friend, Joseph Estrada.
The former President told reporters how much he wished Dolphy had been given
a National Artist award when he was still alive.
"It was long overdue," Estrada said.
He handed the eagle-shaped "People's Artist Award" from Dakilang Lahi
Foundation to Zsa Zsa Padilla and the rest of the Quizon family.
Bibeth Orteza, who wrote Dolphy's biography, "Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-Isa,"
said she was lucky to have worked with Dolphy while doing interviews for the
book.
"Thank you for teaching us to smile. Thank you for teaching us to laugh.
Thank you for being a mirror where we could see ourselves. I'm proud to say that
in our lifetime, among us walked a king," Orteza said.
In her eulogy, Kaye Torres, whose mother Nida Blanca co-starred with Dolphy
in the long-running TV series "John en Marsha," related how big a part of her
mother's life Dolphy was. "He was her husband on screen. And I grew up knowing
that kasi lumaki ako na kasa kasama ako ng mother ko," Torres said.
She also knew how invested the late actress was to the show because "my mom
would add props to the set; she would bring curtains, orchids."
Another member of the "John en Marsha" cast, Matutina, said Dolphy gave her
showbiz break.
She added that Dolphy was a very principled man but he was never angry.
GMA Network executives and stars offered a mass for the actor yesterday.
The somber mood of the wake was broken when talent manager Annabelle Rama had
a noisy confrontation with entertainment columnist and sometime TV host Chito
Alcid.
Rama hit Alcid with a cane when Alcid reportedly pressed her on her running
feud with Amalia Fuentes.
The tension subsided when Rama left the funeral home with her husband Eddie
Gutierrez.
In her Twitter posts later, Rama said: "Nasira ang gabi ko at nawalan ako ng
ganang kumain [because] nakita ko yung baklang duwag, fake na reporter sa
dining. Sinundan nya ako sa cr at hinarap nya ako, akala ng gago na yan na
natatakot ako sa kanya."
She said she hit Alcid with a cane because he was "arrogant."
Rama apologized to Dolphy's family at around 1 a.m. yesterday in yet another
Twitter post.
"To Zsa Zsa and the Quizon family, I am so sorry for what had happened at the
dining area of the Heritage. I was provoked by a fake reporter," she said.
Alcid said it was Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson who first tried to calm down
Rama. German Moreno was also seen convincing the manager to back down.
Alcid had arrived with Amalia Fuentes, Daisy Romualdez, Azenith Briones, and
Singson.
Alcid thought it was his Twitter posts that riled up Rama. "Sinusulat ko na
si Amalia ay binastos ni Ruffa dun sa Twitter. Na kahit hindi binanggit ni
Ruffa, identified na si Amalia, dahil sinulat sa Abante. Yun yung kaso na
hinaharap naman ni Amalia at ni Annabelle," he said.
In a speech delivered during the necrological rites for his father on
Thursday at the Heritage Park, Rodolfo Quizon Jr. revealed he had a falling out
with Zsa Zsa Padilla only a few weeks ago.
Quizon said he resented Padilla's seeming eagerness to prepare for the
comedian's demise.
In one particular instance, he overheard Padilla already ordering the suits
that she wants Dolphy to wear when he's laid in his coffin.
"Hindi ko kasi siya maintindihan, 'nung may sakit na si Daddy, nagpi-prepare
siya ng isusuot... Parang, 'Nagmamadali ba siyang mamatay ang daddy ko?'" Quizon
said.
In the end, he thanked Padilla for all her efforts and asked her forgiveness.

"Ang pamilya, hindi po mabubuo kung may mga tampo o poot. Kaya ine-encourage
ko po kayo, habang buhay pa sila, humingi kayo ng tawad sa daddy n'yo, sa mommy
n'yo. Kaya humihingi ako ng tawad sa 'yo, Zsa Zsa," he said.
Quizon also asked forgiveness from his dad.
"Patawarin mo na kami, ano mang mga kahihiyan ang naidulot naming."
Quizon is one of Dolphy's sons with former actress Engracia Dominguez.
A migrant workers' welfare group has joined the nation in paying tribute to
Dolphy, referring to him as "one of the first Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)."

When Dolphy was 20 years old, he reportedly worked as a dancer and errand boy
in Hong Kong. He also worked in Japan in the 1950s before making it big in
Philippine show business.
Migrante International said OFWs around the world express their gratitude to
Dolphy "for never failing to uplift Filipino dignity in his life, advocacy and
works."
Around 14,000 people lined up at Heritage Park to see Dolphy for the last
time yesterday.
Virgie Tuazon, 62, decided to commute from Tondo, Manila to go to Dolphy's
wake after learning that the actor's family allowed public viewing of his
father's remains until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
"My daughter told me that Dolphy's wake was extended and open to public until
evening (Saturday) so I decided take the train (MRT) and go here immediately,"
Tuazon told the Manila Bulletin.
"I would regret it for the rest of my life if I do not come to see him for
the last time when I had the chance. I've been seeing his films for the longest
time and I still want to see how he looks like," she added.
Some groups of sympathizers brought folding chairs, food, and stuff to
entertain them like guitars to endure waiting in line, which will take more or
less than three hours to get inside the chapel .
Adelaida Cornillez, 60, spent P150 for souvenirs that would remind her of the
Comedy King.
"I bought a shirt for P120 and a key chain for P135. This is just a piece of
him I can take home aside from the picture in my head of the last time I saw
him," Cornillez said.
Memorabilia vendor Chris Ann Serna, 44, said "I feel guilty because I had to
think of my business and delay my mourning. I really liked Dolphy. But I thank
him for the help he gave us even When he's already left us."
Serna said she earned almost P50,000 selling T-shirts with Dolphy's face in
