President Benigno Aquino III will meet "American Idol" runner-up
and Philippine pride Jessica Sanchez on June 10 as announced by Presidential
Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda after the send-off event for PNoy, who is bound to
visit United Kingdom and the US this month.
"Bago siya umalis, the last leg is LA. Pagpunta sa LA, meeting with the
business groups, meet with Jessica and meet with the Filipino community, then
lipad na siya pabalik ng Pilipinas," Lacierda was quoted as saying in an
abs-cbnnews.com report..
Sanchez had earlier expressed her wish to meet the president after he
lavished her with praises despite finishing second on "American Idol."
"Well thank you so much for all the support, hopefully I can meet you (Pres.
Aquino) soon," Sanchez said in a report on abs-cbnnews.com, June 1.
The meeting between Aquino and Sanchez was difficult to schedule. Deputy
Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said a few days ago that this was so as
the president had a tight itinerary in the US in June.
"We are looking at the working itinerary of the president, mukhang tight. I'm
not sure if it is possible to arrange a meeting that is so sudden, on both
sides," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio as reported on May 27 by GMA
News Online.
Besides, Valte feels Sanchez, herself, is busy with scheduled performances,
including a tour after the "American Idol" finals.
"So I don't know if it is possible to be able to work it in the schedule of
the president and also of Ms. Sanchez. Busy ang bata at normally sa aking
pagkakaalam ang finalist ng AI, they go on a concert tour," Valte added.
