MANILA,
JUNE 8, 2012
(BULLETIN) By NR RAMOS - Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez has
announced Tuesday that her husband actor Richard Gomez intends to run for mayor
of Ormoc City in the 2013 elections.
According to Torres, the matter is inevitable as Gomez feels it is his
"calling" to serve the public.
"This was bound to happen really," Torres said in a report on abscbnnews.com.
"He's always had this calling to serve, so it's really ust a matter of time."

Torres said that her husband has been preparing for it and will do his utmost
to make sure his showbiz commitments won't hamper his aim to give constituents
quality service.
"There is a time for everything, so for now it's showbiz, and then there's a
time to serve," Torres explained in the same report. "It's really just a matter
of finding time for what you choose to have in your life. You make time for what
you want and choose to happen in your life."
Torres, who currently serves as representative of the fourth district of
Leyte, said that she will also run for re-election as congresswoman.
The 46-year old Gomez was disqualified from the congressional race in 2010
due to issues concerning his residency. He also lost his senatorial bid as an
independent candidate in 2007.
Gomez, a multi-awarded actor, started his showbiz career as a model prior to
making inroads in acting in the early '80s.
He is currently part of ABS-CBN's hit TV series "Walang Hanggan."

MANILA, Philippines -- Ormoc representative Lucy Torres-Gomez
confirmed that she's running for re-election.
"It's difficult but my job as representative is also very fulfilling and I'm
happy to be in position to be able to do more than just to say 'kawawa naman' or
'nakakalungkot naman yon,'" Torres told abs-cbnnews.com in an interview on
Tuesday afternoon for the launching of Avon Genics.
"At least I'm in the position to actually do things and make a difference and
all that at an age where I still can, 'yung I'm still young, I still have the
energy," she said.
Torres said she would like to continue helping her constituents.
"There's still so much that needs to be done. The election is there for
people to have a choice. So anybody can run but it's the people who will choose.
For as long as people choose you, then you are there to serve. But when people
say na 'tama na' then you also have to know when to step down," she explained.

Torres, who never dreamed of becoming a politician, was elected as
representative of the 4th District of Leyte in 2010 after her husband, Richard
Gomez, was disqualified by the Commission on Elections for failure to
sufficiently establish residency in Ormoc City.
With all the things she did for her kababayans in Ormoc, Torres believes she
has a big chance to win in the congressional race again.
"I think my accomplishments will speak for itself, especially come election.
'Yun 'yung magbabatuhan ng putik. In this day and age it's so easy to verify
facts, parang you don't have to stoop down to that level because your
accomplishments will speak for itself, especially kapag buhay ng artista or
celebrity, our lives is an open book," she said.
