PHNO-SB: CHARICE RECALLS MEETING WITH WHITNEY HOUSTON

CHARICE RECALLS MEETING WITH WHITNEY
HOUSTON

MANILA, FEBRUARY 18, 2012 (ABS-CBN) A video of Filipino singer
Charice emotionally belting out "I Will Always Love You" is not a tribute to the
late Whitney Houston.
Videos of Charice singing Houston's songs have gone viral on the Internet and
were said to have been created on February 13, two days after Houston was found
dead in a hotel in Los Angeles.
But Charice said in a phone interview with ABS-CBN News that these were old
videos.
"Medyo mali nga 'yung ibang information. 'Yung iba sa kanila sinasabi na
kagabi lang daw. Actually, 'yung video nga na 'yan 'yung iba last year, 'yung
iba like 2009," she said.
For instance, a video of Charice crying while performing "I Have Nothing" was
from the last stop of the U.S. tour of "David Foster and Friends."
Foster is Charice's record producer and also the composer of the Houston hit
from the movie, "The Bodyguard."

Charice said she became close with the other members of the tour and that's
why she became emotional during her performance.
But Charice said she is planning a tribute to Houston as part of her upcoming
concert tour in Asia.
"Gusto ko pong maging special siya talaga. Pero syempre talagang gusto kong
gumawa ng something para po sa kanya," she said.
"Maybe magiging emotional, kasi ang hirap pa ring tanggapin, kasi parang
nawalan ka ng kamag-anak. I mean na-discover po kasi ako kasi syempre dahil
kinakanta ko 'yung mga songs niya," she explained.
Meeting Whitney
Charice said it was her dream to do a duet with Houston onstage.
But after Houston's death, Charice said she's content with the memory of
meeting her idol backstage at an event one-and-a-half years ago at the Beverly
Hilton Hotel -- the same hotel where Houston was found dead.
"Sobrang bait po niya, as in nanginginig ako that day dahil kilala niya ako,"
Charice recalled.
"Sabi niya napanood niya ako sa DVD tapos nag-jojoke pa siya. Sabi niya
kinanta mo 'yung mga kanta ko na effortless. Kaya everytime na-iisip ko siya,
talagang naiisip ko yung nag-meet kami dahil sobrang bait niyang tao," she said.

While Charice said she is aware that many compare her powerful voice with
that of Houston, she said she is honored just to keep the songs of her idol
alive.
Charice said she will return to the Philippines in March to do a concert. --
