PHNO-HL: 2 LARGE CROCODILES NAMED 'VALENTINO', 'VALENTINA' CAPTURED BY HUNTERS

2 LARGE CROCODILES NAMED 'VALENTINO',
'VALENTINA' CAPTURED BY HUNTERS

CAMARINES SUR, FEBRUARY 16, 2012 (ABS-CBN) Two large crocodiles, a male and
a female, captured by hunters on Valentine's Day were brought to the crocodile
farm in Bataraza, Palawan on Wednesday.
The male crocodile, named "Valentino", measured 16 feet long.
Valentino was placed on a plank as a forklift transferred him to his cage.

Its handlers, however, had a difficult time caging the crocodile due to its
weight and as it struggled to break free.
Valentino will be temporarily joining the other captured crocodiles in an
exhibit area.
The female crocodile measured 10 feet long and was named "Valentina".
Valentina was brought to the breeding area of the crocodile farm.
The crocodiles were captured following complaints from Bataraza residents
after one reportedly bit a fisherman.
"Kaya sila pumupunta sa taas kasi maaaring wala na silang makain sa baba o
wala na silang matirhan doon," said crocodile hunter Renato Cornel.
Both were wounded from the capture but were immediately treated and given
vitamins.
"Binigyan din natin ng multivitamins, injectible, para makatulong sa katawan
niya," said Dr. Glen Rebong of the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation
Center.
A giant crocodile measuring 14 feet long was also captured in Bataraza last
year and is currently at the crocodile farm.
The largest crocodile in the farm is named "Surigao", which was captured in
the place it was named after 10 years ago.
Surigao's size comes close to Agusan del Sur's "Lolong", believed to be the
largest captured crocodile in the world. -- Report from
