Santos has appealed to the public to not call her husband Ryan Agoncillo
"tarantado," following the road altercation he had recently with a broadsheet
reporter.
On Dec. 4, an upset Marlon Ramos, a broadsheet reporter, posted a string of
tweets recounting how he confronted Agoncillo on the road, after the actor's
speeding sports car almost rear-ended the van of his friend with a two-year-old
child on board.
Not long after, his tweets harbored negative reactions from several netizens,
including one that called the award-winning TV host a "Tarantadong Pinoy," a
derision obviously spun from the show Agoncillo is hosting, "Talentadong Pinoy."
To this, Santos—who was in the passenger seat during the road
encounter—expressed dismay that her husband was quickly judged and chided
online.
"'Yun lang, nahusgahan agad 'yung asawa ko na hindi man lang siya nabigyan ng
chance to air his side.
"But we understand kung bakit ganun 'yung reaksiyon ng tao. Pero, huwag naman
nilang sabihing tarantado 'yung asawa ko kasi mas maraming tarantado diyan.
"Kasi hindi naman nila alam 'yung tunay na situwasyon, 'yung asawa ko
naakusahan na kaagad," said the drama actress in a recent interview.
The incident
Ramos' posts about the incident read:
"was driving w/ my friends on our way to a wedding in Ayala Westgrove in
Silang. 'twas raining hard along the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road when a black Chevy
sports car almost rear-ended my friend's van.
"I admit that 'twas my friends fault. he tried to go to the outer lane
without apparently noticing the oncoming sports car. pro nkasignal nman sya that
he was going to his right. but d sports car was coming at 60-80kph.
"i told myself, 'Naku, babawi tong driver ng sports car.' & that's
exactly what happened. that bully sports car then overtook my friend's van &
cut his path. i saw my friend's van came to a sudden halt.
"nag-alala & kinabahan ako bec my friend was w/ his wife & their
2-yr-old son when i saw d Chevy sports car sped away, my instinct was to run
aftr that bully driver. so i turned on my headlights & honked d car horn
continuously.
"i thought what d driver did to my friend wasnt right. i just wanted to
tell him that d van he cut was carrying a 2-yr-old boy
"so ayun. aftr a few hundred meters of going after d bully sports car
driver, he stopped. the man opened his window & i was surprised to see that
d bully driver of the black Chevy sports car was actually #RYAN AGONCILLO, the
actor and host of 'Talentadong Pinoy'
"his wife, actress JUDY ANN SANTOS, was on the front passenger seat. so I
told d man why he did what he just did. I also told him that the van was
carrying a 2-yr-old boy.
"he just replied, 'Eh sya ang unang nag-cut sa akin.' we had an argument
for maybe less than 3 mins.
"he then closed his window when i told him that he shouldn't bully anyone
on the road and that i'm a reporter. Judy Ann was just quiet."
On Modus Operandi
Hoping to set the record straight on why her husband reacted somewhat
aggressively, Santos clarified that Agoncillo feared that the car trailing
them—which was Ramos'—could be a carjacker or a kidnapper.
"Sa parte namin, siyempre sa panahon ngayon ang daming saksakan, ang
daming kidnap-an, ang daming carnap-an, lalo pa't magpa-Pasko.
"Kami lang dalawa ang magkasama, so natakot lang din kami. Kasi kung
magkaka-convoy kayo tapos kinut nyo 'yung sasakyan namin, paano kung nakaplano
kayo, 'di ba? Siyempre gagawa ng paraan ang asawa ko."
"Hindi naman po sa kung ano pa man, pero sana maintindihan n'yo na natakot
lang din naman kami," explained the star of the Metro Manila Film Festival
entry, "My Housebushand, Ikaw Na!"
Message to Marlon
Though she wishes that Ramos had been more "accurate" in recounting the
story.
She recalled, "E, nasa telepono ako noon, may kausap ako. Nagugulat na lang
ako na gumaganyan-ganyan ako sa may sasakyan.Tapos 'yun na nga, binusinahan
siya, nag-flash ng ilaw si Marlon. 'Tapos tumabi si Ryan sa gilid and then
tumabi rin si Marlon.
"Then binaba niya 'yung bintana niya at sumigaw siya, sinabi niya na, 'Don't
you know we have a two-year-old child in the car.'
"Si Ryan naman, dala rin ng emosyon na takot at bigla, parang 'Huwag mo akong
sisigawan.' Sumigaw din siya. Pero, nag-apologize siya," said the 33-year-old
star.
Santos added, "Sana lang kay Marlon, nilagay din niya na nag-apologize din
naman si Ryan. Hindi lang siguro sa manner na gusto niya. It was a situation na
hindi mo maiiwasan na iinit ang ulo mo."
"Sa situwasyong iyan, kami mismo humihingi kami ng sorry. Natakot kami,
nabigla kami. Sana lang nakumpleto 'yung story," she repeated.
In the end, the award-winning actress issued an apology to him for what
happened. Santos also expressed empathy with Ramos and his friends.
"Hindi rin naman namin masisisi si Marlon dun sa isinulat niya kasi malamang
kinabahan din siya.
"Sorry kung na-upset ka. Sorry kung kinabahan 'yung mga taong kasama mo, lalo
na, I'm sure, 'yung nanay nung bagets [2-year-old child na nakasakay raw sa
kotse].
"It was a spur of the moment na emosyon. Siguro galit, o upset [siya] kasi
hindi niya siguro maisip na si Ryan 'yung makakabangga niya. Or hindi niya
ine-expect na magiging ganun 'yung situwasyon. So, naiintindihan naman namin
siya sa part na 'yun.
"Pero nanay rin naman ako, kinabahan din ako.'Yun lang," she quipped.
