MANILA,
DECEMBER 12, 2011 (BULLETIN) By JOJO P. PANALIGAN - Maricel Soriano is one of
few actresses in local cinema who no longer needs to do projects regularly
unless she loses the public's interest. As Diamond Star for years now, she
enjoys the privilege of choosing work that truly challenges her mettle and
befits her status, even if it means waiting for months, even years, for one to
come along.

With this, Regal Multimedia's "Yesterday Today Tomorrow" is automatically
elevated from being just another entry in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival
(MMFF) into a much-awaited event. This year's lone family drama in the festival
shows Soriano at her best with scintillating lines that will surely be on
everyone's lips by the time the new year rolls in (e.g. "I pay for sex with my
husband's money!" "While you spot me on the bench, I fantasize that you're
naked!").
At the grand press conference for the film held early this week, Maricel
revealed that she felt sure "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" was meant to be her
comeback vehicle. Note that she was last seen on the big screen in a full role
in Regal Films' 2007 offering, "Bahay Kubo," which won for her an award.
"Nung nagmeet kami ni Jun [Lana, the director] para pagusapan yung
pelikula---ito ay pagkatapos kong mabasa yung script---dun ko naramdaman na
magkatono kami. Dun pa lang ay tumaba na ang puso ko at naisip ko na itong
pelikulang ito ay para talaga sa akin," she said.
Lana concurred that he only saw the possibility of the movie coming into
reality after Soriano signed on.
"Even before Maricel joined the film, we were ready to shoot na. But we
wanted Maricel to be part of it so inantay talaga namin siya bago pa namin binuo
yung cast," Lana said.
"With Maricel in, dun ko na napanood yung pelikula, kung paano ang tatakbuhin
ng pelikula."
The actress is all praises for Lana whom she had worked with in the past.
Soriano said that Lana is better than ever as director and that her experience
in shooting "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" was without headache.
"At napakaganda ng kinalabasan ng pelikula. I feel blessed na nagkasama ulit
kami sa isang magandang proyekto," she said.
Soriano also heaped praises on the young actors in the cast. She described
them as hardworking, pleasant and "authentic" as actors. "I'm so proud of them,"
she quipped.
As regards her leading man, Gabby Concepcion, whom she had worked with many
times in the past, Maricel admitted that their chemistry and rapport extend
beyond the silver screen.
"Napakaganda ng bonding naman. Andami naming napaguusapan, at yung usap
Now we talk
about life, mga anak namin at even ang mga pelikula namin before at iba pang mga
nakatutuwang bagay," she said.
Asked if there's anything in her "yesterday" that she regrets "today,"
Soriano said:
"Dapat wala kasi eto yung binigay sa atin ng Dyos na dapat daanan natin. At
Does she have secrets she wants to share?
"40 years na ako sa industriya. Ano pa ba naman ang i-hi-hide ko o
isi-sikreto?"
According to a release, the earthquake scene in the film involving thousands
of extras and bit players is not to be missed. Ditto with Jericho Rosales and
Lovi Poe's scene on the street where their child dies in his arms. Then there's
also that electrifying scene between Soriano and newbie Eula Caballero in which
"expensive things were thrown to waste."
The other cast members of "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" are Dennis Trillo,
Solenn Heussaff, Paulo Avelino, Agot Isidro and Ronaldo Valdez.
"Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" opens Dec. 25.
MARICEL CHANGES IMAGE, TURNS MILD-MANNERED
MANILA, Philippines — Local media noticed a good change in Maricel Soriano
recently. The star of Regal Entertainment's entry to the forthcoming 2011 Metro
Manila Film Festival, "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" surprised everyone with her
newfound soft-spokenness.
This wasn't the Maricel Soriano of old, but we find it a good change in her.
We suspect that her new manager has something to do with it.
Anyway, in the big-budgeted movie directed by Jun Lana, Maricel plays a
wealthy mother to Eula Caballero's character. Maricel is also reunited with
Gabby Concepcion in the movie, which also stars Jericho Rosales, Dennis Trillo,
Lovi Poe, Carla Abellana, Solenn Heussaff, Paulo Avelino, Agot Isidro and
Ronaldo Valdez.
The movie takes pride in big scenes, such as an earthquake scene which is
vital to the plot.
Maricel said she learned a lot from her young co-stars. "I had a lot of
pleasant experiences with them. Magagaling sila lahat, I felt so blessed working
with them. They're all very good.

Young singer gives back
Young singer Kris John Paul Gonzales is excited over his concert for a cause,
"Christmas Showers of Grace" on Dec. 11 at the Star Theater.
The 10-year-old singer said he loves to perform for the less fortunate,
especially street children.
The concert, topbilled by renowned Filipino-American operatic tenor Sal
Malaki and also featuring soprano Tricia Amper-Jimenez, will benefit different
groups like the Living the Gospel Community for the ongoing construction of a
family formation in Nazareth, Mantalongon, Cebu, the Lilion Boys Home and the
Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer. Presenting the show is the Spring Rain
Global Consultancy, Inc. headed by Glenda Antonio.
Sal was clearly impressed by the child prodigy: "I know the boy has talent,
and he has a very good foundation, I'm happy that his father, Noel Gonzales, has
his full support."
Kris, who prefers singing Italian songs, further impressed Sal with his
chosen genre.
Kris has performed during a victory party tendered by Gov. Chavit Singson for
boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, a fundraising concert at the St. James the Great
Parish Church in Alabang, among others.
