MANILA,

ANGEL Capili Jr., the man suspected of killing Ricky Pempengo, father of
international Filipina singer Charice Pempengco, surrendered to the police on
Thursday afternoon.
News reports said that Capili, a construction worker, first surrendered to
barangay (village) captain Rolando Pagkalinawagan in General Trias town, Cavite
province. He was then turned over to General Trias Mayor Luis Ferrer 4th, who
then got in touch with the Laguna provincial police.
A handcuffed Capili, who was clad in a white T-shirt and jeans, was brought
to Camp Crame—headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP)—in Quezon
City (Metro Manila) at about 4 p.m. He was accompanied by Gov. ER Ejercito of
Laguna.
When interviewed on television, Capili admitted to stabbing the elder
Pempengco using a screwdriver he used for work, but denied that he planned to
kill him.
He also denied harboring an old grudge against the victim, saying that he
just ran into Ricky that night and was acting on self-defense.
Capili said that he did not know that the victim was Charice's father until
he saw it in the news. He added that he deeply regretted what he had done to and
hoped that the singer and her family would forgive him.
"Humihingi po ako ng kapatawaran sa kanya. Sana ay mabigyan niya ako ng
pagkakataon na mapatawad niya ako (I am asking for Charice's forgiveness. I hope
she forgives me)," he said in tears.
But Charice said that they would not forgive the construction worker.
Capili denied that he was hiding and explained that he was only looking for
someone who could help him surrender to the authorities.
The victim, who was separated from Charice's mom Raquel, was stabbed at A.
Bonifacio Road, Barangay Laram, San Pedro, Laguna, on Monday.
His remains will be buried at Pasture of Heaven Memorial Park in Cabuyao,
Laguna on Saturday, according to the singer's manager, Grace Mendoza.

Filipino international singing sensation Charice arrived in the Philippines
on Tuesday dawn to attend the wake of her slain father, Ricky Pempengco, at
Divine Mercy Chapel in Muntinlupa City (Metro Manila).
Charice was supposed to perform in Singapore for the David Foster and Friends
tour, but upon learning of the death of her dad, she canceled her participation
in the concert and took a flight from Jakarta, Indonesia, to the Philippines.
She expressed her sadness on the tragic death of her father upon her arrival
at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City (also in Metro Manila).
The singer sought the help of authorities to find the suspect in the murder
of her dad. In a statement, Charice expressed hope that justice will be served,
not just to her father but also to other people.
Addressing issues regarding her family's supposed problems, she said that the
disagreements between her family and relatives of her estranged father have been
ironed out.
Ricky Pempengco was stabbed dead in San Pedro, Laguna province, south of
Manila, on Monday night by the suspect, Angel Capili Jr.
Capili is now the subject of a manhunt and carries a P100,000 reward for
information leading to his arrest.
