PHNO-SB: ALDEN RICHARDS, SAM PINTO SET TO GO OUT ON A 'FRIENDLY' DATE

ALDEN RICHARDS, SAM PINTO SET TO GO OUT ON A 'FRIENDLY' DATE

MANILA, JULY 27, 2011 (MALAYA) MARIO BAUTISTA ('John encouraged him to ask Sam for a friendly date and he did it on national TV. Sam later accepted the invite.')

ALDEN RICHARDS, who won as Yahoo! OMG's Most Amazing Male Newcomer, took the lie detector test in one of the segments of "Showbiz Central" last Sunday.

The show's host, John Lapus, called him "Ang Pambansang Dimples" and said he's the new Aga Muhlach.

When asked if he feels pressured competing with Mikael Daez in the Yahoo! OMG contest? He said "no" and the lie detector agreed, showing that it was "true."

Is there a competition between him and other young male stars of the movie "Tween Academy, Class of 2012?" He said no and again, it's true.

He added that colleagues Kristoffer Martin, Derrick Monasterio, Joshua Dionisio and Jake Vargas were all nice to him.

The last question came from his ka-love team in "Tween Academy," Louise de los Reyes, saying: "Nagbababad ka raw sa set para bantayan si Sam Pinto sa shooting natin sa 'Tween Hearts'?" He said no and, this time, the detector equipment resulted with a lie.

Alden is 18 years old and Sam is 23 years old, who is playing as a teacher in the movie.

Alden admitted that Sam is his crush but he said "hindi ako nagbababad sa shooting for her."

John encouraged him to ask Sam for a friendly date and he did it on national TV. Sam later accepted the invite.

SAM PINTO doesn't care if some folks were saying that she doesn't deserve to win as FHM's Sexiest Pinay.

Her detractors said that when she performed during the FHM night at the World Trade Center, she was not well-applauded unlike Eula Valdez who got thunderous applause when the 43-year old cougar actress appeared on stage.

Others also said that Michelle Madrigal's performance got louder applause.

They added that Sam didn't look sexy on stage because she lacks hip and Regine Angeles did a better production number than her.

But Sam is not affected by it even if they said that she only won because Viva and San Miguel pulled strings in her behalf. "You just can't please everyone," she said.

IT TURNED out that no temporary restraining order (TRO) was filed against TV5's teleserye, "The Sisters," since it was aired as scheduled.

The Kapatid network is happy with its high rating, considering that it's being aired late due to the frequent overtime of Willie Revillame's show.

Nadine Samonte said she's having the time of her life, playing her twin characters Bella and Cristina. "Mahirap gawin kasi for each scene, I have to dress differently at binabago pati hair and makeup ko," she said. "But it's very fulfilling because not all actresses were given a chance to play this kind of role."

According to TV5's Public Relations executive Peachy Guioguio, Nadine is a crowd drawer and it was proven during a recent mall show for "The Sisters" at SM Taytay "Thousands really came and waited for her… para makita lang siya," she said. "Her song numbers were all well applauded. Grabeng tilian and everyone wanted to take a picture with her."

"After the successful pilot week, more viewers will be hooked with the upcoming episodes dahil dito ipapakita how the sisters will be torn apart because of their vengeful and scheming aunt, Socorro, played effectively by Rio Locsin," she added.

Nadine, on the other hand, is very grateful to TV5 for taking good care of her.

From the payment she got from signing a contract with them, Nadine bought her own condo unit and a new car.

WHY DID Bela Padilla accept her villain role in the TV series, "Sisid," when she already played a lead role in "Machete?"

"When they explained to me how important the role of Monique is in 'Sisid,' nagustuhan ko ito," she said.

"Hindi ito just another villain role, may substance ito. Sosyal dito si Monique, manipulative at Inggliserang ex-girlfriend ni Dominic Roco. Also, I'm a good team player, puwede both in bida and kontrabida roles. I'm also glad that our director, Sir Ricky Davao, is an award-winning actor, so I'm learning so much from him."

Bela was paired with Aljur Abrenica in "Machete." Now, Aljur is being linked to her cousin, Kylie Padilla. How does she feel about it? "I'm happy for them. I told Aljur not to break Kylie's heart or else marami kaming relatives ni Kylie na makakalaban niya."

Bela made it to the FHM's list of Sexiest Women. She was listed at number 77. "Yes, I was surprised kasi hindi pa naman ako nag-pose for them for a sexy pictorial. I just want to thank all those who voted for me kaya napasali ako doon."

Does it mean that she's now ready to pose for them? "I'm still trying to convince myself, kasi I don't feel sexy enough. Another factor is I want to join a beauty pageant sana. Eh, 'pag nag-pose na daw sa isang sexy magazine, hindi na kukunin sa beauty pageant."

THEATRE Icons Isay Alvarez and Robert Sena met each other in London while doing "Miss Saigon." They fell in love, got married, and now after 20 years, they're still together. What's their secret? "Mapagmahal kasi siya," said Isay. "At mapagbigay, lahat ng pera niya, binibigay niya sa akin."

"She balances me," said Robert. "May pagka-happy go lucky kasi ako and she reminds me na huwag ako masyado maging ganon."

They have three kids who can all sing well. Their eldest, Maria Eliza (Isay's daughter from a past relationship), is a college degree holder and already working.

They have two sons. Robert Jr., born in London and turning 20 soon, is taking up political science in La Salle, while Emilio or Miong, 12, is studying now at Community of Learners.

Robert and Isay have put up their own musical company and school named "Spotlight Artists Center."

They now plan to revive the musical play "Katy," hoping Regine Velasquez will play in it.

Meanwhile, the couple are currently mentoring the new actors in the cast of Hiyas Kayumanggi's production of the longest Filipino oral epic, "Hinilawod," which has 28,000 verses and longer than Homer's epics "Iliad" and "Odyssey."

Producer Evelyn Yoro said the play has been well received at the Luce Theatre of Siliman University in Dumaguete, where their company is based. The play has already had several reruns. They will be staging it in Manila at the CCP Main Theatre on September 3 and 4.

From the original Visayan chant, it is translated into English and set into music by well known historian F. Landa Jocano.

"We were impressed after we saw 'Hinilawod'," said Isay. "Other countries have their own plays like Indonesia's 'Rama Hari,' China's operas and Japan's Kabuki. We should really have our own indigenous theatre with 'Hinilawod' in it."

"The show mirrors the culture of our ancestors and it has a story that is distinctly Filipino," added Robert. "Its cast of 70 actors is new, so we conducted a three-day workshop for them in Dumaguete to polish their performances. They are like sponges… so willing to absorb and learn what we impart to them. Now, they're definitely world class."
