RICHARD GUTIERREZ: BACHELOR AT LARGE
MANILA, FEBRUARY 6, 2011 (STAR) CONVERSATIONS With Ricky Lo - He's the perfect Valentine.
Why?
Well, Richard Gutierrez is drop-dead gorgeous, nice company, an engrossing conversationalist and with substance between his pretty ears.
And he's not the kiss-and-tell type.
Since the news broke out that he has split with girlfriend (of three years?) Jewel Mische, Richard hasn't breathed a word about it. He simply smiles when pressed for comment.
If off-screen he's Mr. Valentine, Richard is even more so on screen, no wonder he's described as The Ultimate Leading Man who clicks with any leading lady — from Angel Locsin to KC Concepcion to Marian Rivera to Anne Curtis — and now, in his latest movie, My Valentine Girls, a joint venture between GMA Films and Regal Films, with Eugene Domingo, Rhian Ramos, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff (who's rumored to be his latest squeeze although she and Richard claimed that they are "just friends").
In real life, Richard said that he hardly has time for a Valentine date because year after year since 2005 he is always busy promoting Valentine starrers, starting with Let The Love Begin (2005, with Angel), I Will Always Love You (2006, also with Angel) and The Promise (2007, again with Angel), and then My Best Friend's Girl Friend (2008, with Marian) and When I Met U (2009, with KC).
My Valentine Girls is a trilogy: With Rhian in the episode Soulmates where Richard plays a ghost with whom Rhian falls in love at first sight, directed by Dominic Zapata; Lovi and Solenn in BBFF (Best Boy Friend Forever), a love triangle with a twist, directed by Andoy Ranay; and Eugene in Gunaw, a love-in-the-end-of-the-world romance treated with humor, directed by Chris Martinez.

And if she smiles back?
Richard gets the girls in the trilogy. But in real life, he swears that he's single, a Bachelor-at-Large.
What is your favorite pick-up line?
"I don't have one. I just find a way to get to know the person."
How do you do it?
"Eye contact and a nice smile."
What if she doesn't smile back?
"It means that she's hard-to-get. Or trying to be."
"It's a good sign."
Then what follows?
"I would approach her."
And where would it end?
"Hmmmm. It depends."
How do you deal with a girl who's trying to catch your attention?
"Hmmmm. It also depends. I can feel and I can tell if a girl is into something, you know, in the tone of her voice, the way she looks at you, the way she touches you. Mararamdaman mo, eh."
Aren't your looks enough to hypnotize a girl?
"It goes beyond looks. When I find someone interesting, I go out of my way and find out what kind of person she is. Sexiness goes beyond the physical; it comes from the totality of a girl."
What's the first thing that you want to discover about a girl?
"Well, if she's intelligent, if she talks well."
Do gorgeous guys like you get turned down by girls?
"Of course!"
How many times have you been turned down in all your 27 years (his and twin brother Raymond's birthday was Jan. 21)?
"A few times when I was in high school (in Beverly Hills)."
Have you ever been broken-hearted?
"Yes, when I was very young. You see, I started having girlfriends when I was very young."
How very young were you?
"Thirteen."
Was that the time when you lost your innocence?
(Doesn't reply; blushes)
To a younger girl, as old as you were or older than you?
"Older…Not a lot older, huh; just a little older."
What does it take to win your heart?
"She has to be genuine. When she talks, she doesn't pretend or put up a front. She shouldn't try hard to impress me. I like a girl who is strong-minded, disciplined. If she has a sense of humor, so much the better."
When did you have your first love?
"I was 13, when I was in high school."
When did you have your first kiss?
"It happened during my first love. My first girlfriend challenged me to do it while we were playing Truth or Dare. She dared me to kiss her, so I did."
What kind of girls do you find attractive?
"Aside from what I mentioned earlier, lagi akong napapalingon sa mga girls na classy ang dating."
Are you particular about physical attributes, such as big boobs and big butts?
"Both. Hahahahaha!"

What kind of girls turns you off?
"Those who are ma-drama and materialistic."
When was the last time you kissed a girl?
"Last time?" (Laughs and laughs) "Matagal na. Mga ilang oras na." (Note: This conversation happened between 9 and 9:30 Thursday night, Feb. 3.)
And when was the last time you said "I love you" to a girl?
"Matagal na rin. A few months ago."
This Valentine's, is there a girl you're going to say "I love you" to?
"I'm not sure. I don't think so. I just don't want to say 'I love you' just to anyone. If I say it, I want to mean it and to come from my heart."
Are you single?
"Yes."
And available?
"Yes."
How do you break up with a girl?
"I talk to her; we talk. But it's really hard, especially since you have shared beautiful moments together, parts of your lives together."
Did you have a hard time breaking up with your jewel of a girlfriend?
"Oo naman! We talked."
How many girlfriends have you had so far?
"'Yung serious, four."
'Yung hindi serious?
"Marami! Hahahahaha!"
When was the last time you broke up with a girl?
"Recently. As I said, breaking up is very hard to do because I'm the type who doesn't initiate the break-up."
What do you mean?
"When I'm done with a relationship, I give very subtle signs so as not to hurt the girl."
A few words about your My Valentine Girls leading ladies.
"Eugene is playful, fun. She generates positive energy on the set. She's very good at what she does. Solenn is open-minded, also fun, disciplined, and she knows what she wants. I met Lovi only during the shoot. She seems to be patient, strong-willed and easy to get along with. Rhian is fun, too. She's witty, outspoken and adventurous."
You have kissing scenes with all of them. Who among them is the best kisser?
"All of them."

"Happy Valentine's to all of you!"
