AIKO IN 'PAIN' OVER BREAKUP WITH LONG-TIME BF - ABUNDA
MANILA, FEBRUARY 17, 2011 (STAR) By ALEX VALENTIN BROSAS - Boy Abunda has confirmed that his ward, Aiko Melendez, has broken up with her boyfriend of many years, politician Patrick Meneses.
"Naghiwalay po sila kahapon," Abunda stated on "Showbiz News Ngayon," Feb. 15.
Not wanting to add insult to injury, Abunda did not probe into the reason of the split. "Hindi ko na po pinanghimasukan dahil I wanted to respect the pain... whatever Aiko is going through. It was Aiko that I spoke to mga kaibigan. Kahapon pa lamang ay... and these are my words... I was also very careful because I would imagine that the couple is still trying to fix things up. I mean, napakabago pa at napaka-fresh," he said.
The manager stressed that Melendez need not issue an official statement on the matter.
"She's not going to be interviewed, she's not going to talk about what happened, not until it is necessary to do so," he said.
Talking as "manager" and "bilang kapitbahay" as "we live in the same village," Abunda revealed, "So iyan po mga kaibigan, yes we are confirming that but she's in pain... she in pain and I respected that kanina. I was very careful when I was talking to her and I was just listening."
Dishing out an advice to the actress, Abunda said, "Aiko if you're watching, this too shall pass."
Asked by his co-host if his statement is in behalf of Aiko, the TV host immediately made clarification.
"That was not a statement, that was just a kuwento. I wanted to make the correction. Nais ko lamang po sabihin 'yon para... kasi just before we started the show, somebody texted me na nasa Twitter na and nasa ibang sites na. I might as well confirm it dito po sa 'SNN.'"
Melendez went into a relationship with Meneses after her separation with model Martin Jickain, with whom she has a daughter Marthena.
