PHNO-SB: THE TRUTH ABOUT SENATOR LAPID

THE TRUTH ABOUT SENATOR LAPID

(PHOTO - Sen. Lito Lapid: He's okay, according to his spokesman)

MANILA, JANUARY 6, 2011 (STAR) FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - Curtain-raisers:

• A semi-retired singer-actor had a unique way of leaving "souvenirs" with his clamoring fans back in his heyday. After signing autographs, instead of giving away photos, he would dip into his underwear and come up with a "strands" and tell the fans, "O, bahala na kayo maghati-hati d'yan!" Which reminds us of a movie writer who had a collection of, well, "hairy" souvenirs neatly arranged in an album, complete the names of "donors" and dates of "harvest."

• It turns out that the Sexy Young Actress has a bad habit of getting into a relationship, such as those of a beauty-queen-actress who cried "Foul!" and a "thrilling" actor and of a sweet singer-actress and the dancing actor who "squealed." Did you know that SYA lost the friendship of a comebacking sexy actress who found out that SYA was "sharing" with her businessman-boyfriend. As Inday Badiday would warn, mag-ingat sa mga taong hindi mo kilala; mas lalong mag-ingat sa mga taong kilalang-kilala mo. It was also SYA who spread the word that an actor she was locked up in a brief encounter was "so-so" down there.

• Has Heart Evangelista been reduced to a factotum (alalay) or a rah-rah girl to her boyfriend Daniel Matsunaga? When Daniel guested on Showbiz Central last week, Heart was rah-rahing on the sidelines, flashing a card that said "I Daniel!" Also, some people are wondering how Heart felt when she saw (if she did) the nude photos of Daniel, supposed to have been taken when he was working as model in Singapore, now being circulated in the Internet showing him smiling widely as if to say, "Look what I've got!" The gentle Brapanese is playful, after all.

You, too, must have been intrigued why Sen. Lito Lapid has been scarce during the holidays, missing even at the Senate and making Senate Pres. Johnny Enrile wonder if his colleague was sick.

There are speculations (including in the Internet) that Sen. Lapid is "seriously ill" and he had to go to the States for treatment.

To clarify the rumor, Funfare called up Alex Marcelino, Sen. Lapid's spokesperson, and Alex assured everybody that the senator is okay.

But Alex did confirm, that Sen. Lapid went to the States late last year for check-up and not for treatment.

"He's suffering from recurring pain in his shoulder and his spinal column," said Alex, "but the doctor gave him a clean bill of health."

The senator must have sustained that bad back from doing physically-challenging stunts (as King of Stunt) in his movies.

Alex added that Sen. Lapid came back on Dec. 18 last year but hasn't showed up at the Senate, fanning the rumor that there must really be something wrong with him.

Karylle's 'Shang Bang' 2011

Postscript: Karylle's "Shang Bang" performance at the Shangri-La Makati's New Year Countdown, which was a maiden venture of Little Flower Music Production, was a hit. It was SRO at the hotel's lobby lounge. Karylle: A 'Shang Bang' performance

Karylle opened her act with a rousing Queen of the Night number. She then led the audience into dancing by dishing out medleys of songs of Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Keisha. She also performed standards like You've Got A Friend and Lean On Me, and paid tribute to the phenomenal musical series Glee by singing its theme Don't Stop Believing.

During the concert, she made her debut as a guitar player as she performed her original song , Found My Smile.

In her intro spiels for that song, Karylle divulged, "When people ask me about my love life, it's kinda hard to explain, so instead, I will reply with this song."

Salinawit version of Lorelei

Salinawit (song translated in Tagalog) specialist Pete Lacaba has just done a Tagalog version of Lorelei, the classic Jack Jones song.

Here it is:

SIRENA

Sa himig ng Lorelei

Salinawit: Pete Lacaba

Sirena ay umaawit,

Palagi kong naririnig.

"Halika," sabi niya,

"At tayo'y humimlay

Dito sa dalampasigan."

Sirena ay mahiwaga,

Nagtatago, walang mukha.

Kung ipakita niya

Ang angkin niyang ganda

Sa akin,

Sirena'y aking

Mamahalin

Hanggang libing.

(INTERLUDE)

Sirena'y aking

Mamahalin

Hanggang libing.

Ang sirena ay nasaan?

Awit niya'y kay lumbay.

What's up?

• When is a joke in bad taste? Simple: When people find it offensive. That's how many people find Melai Cantiveros' Tips segment in the ABS-CBN gag show Banana Split's Jan. 1 episode — offensive and in bad taste. In the segment, Melai burned, among others, pictures of celebrities that should be swept away with the old year, including those of Mr. Fu and Kimerald, with canned laughter as background. If you ask me, I suggest that whoever wrote that segment should be the one burned at stake. Let's see if he or she can still laugh.
