PHNO-SB: VICKI BELO FACES ANOTHER MALPRACTICE IN BOTCHED BUTT LASER TREATMENT

VICKI BELO FACES ANOTHER MALPRACTICE IN BOTCHED BUTT LASER TREATMENT

MANILA, NOVEMBER 8, 2010 (BULLETIN) By ANYA SANTOS - She may be a picture of happiness these days as reports of a revived relationship with her former beau, Hayden Kho, have surfaced recently; but it seems cosmetic surgeon Dr. Vicki Belo may find a new cause for concern.

It has been reported on Nov. 6 that there may be a new threat to her license to practice, stemming from an alleged botched butt laser treatment procedure.

According to the news item, a businesswoman and former entertainer in Japan, Mrs. Morita, has expressed that she would file a medical malpractice complaint against Belo before the Philippine Medical Association. Apparently, this is for an alleged botched laser treatment procedure on her butt. Morita also says she intends to ask the Professional Regulation Commission to revoke Belo's license after Belo has reportedly accused that this is just a nuisance suit in order to get money.

The report also said that Morita had gone to the Belo Medical Group in Makati to "undergo a procedure that would make her butt look whiter" and that Belo herself "handled the laser treatment machine" during the "exceedingly painful" operation.

Morita added that the skin on her butt got burned and that the operation left discoloration on the area.

Morita denies she is after money and has reportedly already filed a civil complaint against Belo earlier.

Note that this isn't the first time a complaint has been filed against Belo and her group. Last year, another businesswoman filed a case against the Belo Medical Group, citing three of its doctors including Belo, for a reported botched butt augmentation procedure.

The businesswoman, Josefina Norcio, sought the help of the NBI, and in a report on "TV Patrol," it was later revealed that the NBI found acrolein in the hydrogel used in the procedure. Norcio then filed a case of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries after suffering an infection.

While there hasn't been any new reported development regarding the case, the Belo Medical Group's representatives pointed out then to "TV Patrol" that the product they used on Norcio was safe--as it contained 97.5% water and only 2.5% Polyacrylamide Hydrogel.

They also noted that it took four years before the product allegedly had any reaction on the patient, who had her last procedure in 2005 and only filed the complaint in 2009. Their spokesperson noted that the complainant could have had other procedures done in another clinic within the time frame, or could have had trauma that may have resulted in the infection.
