MANILA, SEPTEMBER 2, 2012 (PHILSTAR) - Conversations on visual arts,
film, music and literature await listeners and viewers of Art 2 Art this month
as host Lisa Macuja interviews an array of artists from these disciplines.
Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art airs Sundays at 3:30
p.m. on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band), and can be viewed simultaneously via RHTV
and through DZRH live streaming.
Today, painter, sculptor and printmaker Manuel Baldemor — known for his
folksy paintings and sculptures — relates how he got started as a carver in his
hometown of Paete, Laguna, and eventually established a career that now spans
over three decades.
On Sept. 9, filmmaker, film historian, author and teacher Nick Deocampo
shares his recent efforts to help spread film literacy in the Philippines,
including writing SineGabay: A Film Study Guide.

The Sept. 16 episode will have Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra's (PPO)
music director, Olivier Ochanine. He will bare plans for PPO's 30th concert
season which will kick off on Sept. 21.
On Sept. 23, Palanca award-winning poet Mookie Lacuesta talks about Metro
Serye, an anthology of literary works that she edits. The Ateneo teacher also
explains how poetry can be better appreciated and why she feels literature is
particularly exciting now.
The Sept. episode will pay tribute to maestro Francisco Santiago.

Manuel Dalao Baldemor was born on 26 March 1947 in Paete, Laguna.

His hometown, its people, their day-to-day activities, and their celebrations
have been the consistent subjects of his art.
He has also painted international genre and landscape scenes. He was exposed
to art and trained in the workshops of wood-carvers and santeros (makers of
religious images) of Paete to carve in wood.
He is however best known for his paintings in various media that depict
scenes in simplified geometric forms with a folk art character.
His numerous international grants have enabled him to capture the scenery of
other countries as well in his signature style as well as share his art with
people abroad. In October 2007, his painting titled, Karo ng Sorbetes, was
instrumental in capturing a Unesco seat for the Philippines during the 34th
general conference in Paris. His art is well-known interationally as his works
are frequently used for UNICEF cards.
He is currently an arts and culture columnist for the arts and culture

kultura para sa lahat this month as host Lisa Macuja (photo) interviews
personalities from various art disciplines.

following episodes:
Today Rondalla music comes into focus as representatives of the Third
International Rondalla Festival to be held in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on
Feb. 12 to 19 drop by for a visit. Festival overall coordinator Loen Vitto and
Prof. Pacita Narzo of the PNU Rondalla discuss the origins of the rondalla, a
musical group whose members play plucked string instruments such as the
bandurria and octavina. They also discuss the upcoming festival dubbed Cuerdas
ng Pagkakaisa (Strings of Unity) which will feature concerts, an exhibition,
outreach performances and an international conference.
Feb. 13 For its Valentine presentation, Art 2 Art welcomes second-generation
theater personalities Delphine Buencamino and Mara Marasigan. Both are children
of stage icons, the former of Nonie Buencamino and Shamaine Centenera and the
latter of Dennis Marasigan and Irma Adlawan. This month, the two are together in
Dulaang UP's restaging of the Balagtas epic Orosman at Zafira at SM Mall of
Asia's Centerstage, with Delphine alternating in the role of Zafira and Mara
working as an assistant director. They discuss the challenges of having
well-known parents and building careers for themselves in the same field and
while still being in school.
Feb. 20 Visual artist-entrepreneur Alfred Galvez talks about his company that
specializes in residential and commercial murals, proving that art and commerce
can go hand in hand. Alfred relates how he got into painting murals and
eventually established his own firm which is a pioneer in its field. He shares
the challenges of running his own art business without sacrificing his integrity
as an artist.
Feb. 27 Art 2 Art caps the month with a tribute to another National Artist, a
monthly feature of the program since it began airing in 2007. The show presents
national artists as role models who have devoted their lives to the advancement
of art and culture.
