MANILA,
AUGUST 27, 2012 (ABS-CBN) It was a night
of remembrance as the Liberal Party colleagues of Interior and Local Government
Secretary Jesse Robredo and fellow members of the Cabinet reminisced their most
unforgettable moments with the late secretary.
President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino was in attendance during the
memorial service of the Liberal Party for Robredo who was the party's executive
vice president.
ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman was thankful to Robredo from whom, he said, he
had learned so much especially as the ARMM was establishing its transition
government.
Hataman said he learned to adopt Robredo's strong advocacy for transparency
and good governance.
The news of Robredo's plane crash came as a shock to Hataman especially since
they had spoken the Friday before. Robredo was still planning to convene the
peace and order council and had asked Hataman to accompany him to Zamboanga and
Basilan.
Hataman vowed to continue to fight for the reforms and push for change in the
region that Robredo had kept faith in.
"Manahimik man ang iyong boses, pero mananatiling aalingawngaw sa aming
isipan ang iyong talumpati noon kung saan sinabi mong: ARMM will be a
game-changer. When the history of ARMM is written, we want the scorecard to
show, Transparency and Accountability: 100, Fear and Force: 0," said Hataman.

Liberal Party Vice President for Policy, Programs and Advocacy Henedina Abad
invited all public officials to reflect on the message that Secretary Robredo's
life, accomplishments, and death had brought.
Abad echoed the question that people have been asking: Why did it have to be
Secretary Robredo? Helping to answer the question, Abad said Robredo made the
people realize that it can be possible for officials to be both good, competent,
and remain incorruptible.
Abad vowed to help continue the reforms and values that Robredo had stood
for.
"Babantayan namin ang mga nakamit na tagumpay, na iyong nagawa at isusulong
ang iyong nasimulan. Isang karangalan na makasama ka sa pagsulong ng tuwid na
daan, Sec. Jesse. Paalam," said Abad.
LP Vice President for External Affairs Senator "Kiko" Pangilinan became
emotional as he narrated how he admired Robredo, describing himself as a fan of
the man he called a "source of strength and inspiration" and a "true warrior for
change."
He recalled giving his first priority development assistance fund or pork
barrel as senator to Naga, trusting that the money will be put to good use
because Robredo was the mayor.
"Tunay nating minahal si Jesse dahil nakita nati sa kanya ang tunay na
pagmamalaskit sa bayan. Salamat, Jesse, sa loob ng halos tatlong dekada na
nagsilbi kang inspirasyon na nagbigay ng lakas ng loob sa amin na nagnanasang
magbigay ng tunay na pagbabago sa bansa. Salamat, Leni, sa pag-alaga mo sa isang
bayani ng ating republika," said Pangilinan.
Liberal Party Vice Chairman and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte spoke of how
Robredo hardly stood out in a crowd because of his humility and lack of penchant
to attract attention to himself despite being the "living hero" and inspiration
to many, the man who was responsible for transforming Naga from a third class
city to a progressive one.
Belmonte said the best tribute that people can give to Robredo is to follow
the example that he has set out as a man of integrity.
Belmonte said Robredo's passing should serve inspiration to continue
championing the cause of democracy.
Liberal Party Chairman Mar Roxas lamented how a big loss Secretary Robredo is
for the country, wondering what God or the universe would want the people to
learn with his passing. He said Robredo truly led by example, being a
troubleshooter and solver of problems, big or small.
Roxas thanked Robredo for the goodness, generosity, commitment and devotion
that he had shown to the party's principles and programs, vowing to pay it
forward by reciprocating and continuing what Robredo started.
"Bago mawala sa isip ko, to use another 'Jessism', perhaps the answer to all
the questions I talked about earlier is the simple truth: The way Jesse lived
his life is God's gift to us. Maraming salamat, Sec. Jesse. Noon at ngayon,
liberal ka, marangal. Sec. Jesse, tuluy-tuloy lang kami, alam naming hindi mo
kami pababayaan. You're home now. Rest well, sige lang, sige lang," said Roxas.

Singer Ogie Alcasid sang "Hindi Kita Malilimutan" while Christian Bautista
delivered his rendition of "To Where You Are", pushing those in attendance to
tears.
The party's memorial service ended with the singing of "Bayan Ko" led by
Bayang Barrios as a tribute to Robredo's love of country and his partymates' vow
to continue Robredo's work.
