MANILA, AUGUST 5, 2012
(ABS-CBN) By RG Cruz - Former President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been diagnosed with acute cervical and lumbar
strain.
A medical report from Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) also said her
blood pressure is at 130/90. The bulletin was signed by Martha O. Nucum, the
admitting physician. Antonio Sison was listed as her attending physician.
Arroyo was rushed to the VMMC last night after complaining of pain.
Her chief of staff and spokesperson Elena bautista Horn earlier said:
"Complete bed rest muna sya. Nasobrahan ata sa trabaho at na strain ang neck sa
effort to get out the melon that choked her."
The melon was mixed with a piece of meat.
Arroyo plunged immediately back to work in her district in Pampanga after she
was released on bail from her electoral sabotage charge.
Arroyo's congressional office released Friday the medical bulletin of the
VMMC.
GMA's condition not serious
Mrs. Arroyo will have to be confined at the VMMC for several days after
suffering from cervical and lumbar arthritis or spongolitis.
Dra. Nona de la Fuente Legaspi, director of the VMMC, said that the former
President is on a soft diet and is on IV fluid.
At around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, she was rushed to the VMMC after vomiting
several times after she choked during her dinner.
Legaspi said that the former President has been prescribed pain killers for
her back and neck pains.
Doctors also advised her to slow down and have complete bed rest.
Legaspi also said that the pain the former President is feeling could be due
to her hectic schedule.
She said that Arroyo's condition is not serious, but that she needs to slow
down on her activities.
Legaspi also said that Arroyo's condition will be assessed everyday but she
believes the former President will have to stay in the hospital over the
weekend. -- with a report from Jay Ruiz, ABS-CBN

Arroyo stable after melon incident; bed rest
advised By Julie M. Aurelio Philippine Daily Inquirer 5:09 am |

Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was in stable condition at Veterans
Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) on Saturday, two days after she choked on a piece
of melon, causing her to suffer fresh neck and back pains.

VMMC Director Dr. Nona Legaspi said the former President was on intravenous
medication.

Legaspi could not say how long Arroyo would be confined at the hospital.

Arroyo was taken back to the VMMC Thursday night complaining of pain in her
neck and lower back after choking on a piece of melon during dinner with her
family.

Her effort to remove the melon must have strained her neck, doctors said.

Arroyo left the state-run hospital a week ago after a Pasay City court
hearing her electoral sabotage case allowed her to post bail.

Arroyo is temporarily free on P1-million bail, but the court has forbidden
her to travel to other countries.

Her doctors, too, have told her to avoid traveling and advised her to take a
complete bed rest.

She had traveled to her district in Pampanga in preparation for a run for
reelection next year and dropped in on the House of Representatives before she
began to feel fresh neck and back pains Thursday night.
