MANILA, JULY 6, 2012
(MANILA BULLETIN) Aimed at providing Overseas Filipino
Workers (OFWs) with useful insights on investments for themselves and their
families back home, a seminar on "Business and Investment Opportunities in the
Philippines for Overseas Workers – Migrante, Maging Negosyante" was recently
held by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in cooperation with
the Philippine Embassy in Paris, France.
The topics on rewards and risks of entrepreneurship, starting a small
enterprise, determining product lines/service lines and financial requirements,
choosing the right business types, types of business according to ownership,
writing a business plan, seeking sources of capital, and registering the
business were the focus of the presentations.
PTIC Director and Commercial Attaché (CA) Althea Karen P. Antonio made a
presentation on "How to Start a Business." Philippine Ambassador to France
Cristina O. Ortega encouraged Filipinos in Paris to continue taking part in the
economic development of the country by putting their remittances to good use
through wise and productive investments.
The presentations were part of the financial literacy program of the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to transform "overseas Filipinos (OFs)"
into "overseas Filipino investors (OFIs)."
With offices in the world's major cities in North America, Europe, Middle
East, and Asia, the PTIC provides commercial representation for the Philippines
to foreign countries, with the mandate to promote and develop the growth of
Philippine products and services in the world market, promote foreign
investments, provide commercial intelligence to government and industry sectors,
and assist in bilateral and multilateral trade and economic negotiations.
We greet the Embassy of the Philippines-Paris, headed by Philippine
Ambassador to France Cristina O. Ortega and Philippine Trade and Investment
Center-Paris Director and Commercial Attaché Althea Karen P. Antonio.
The Manila Bulletin, led by its Chairman of the Board Dr. Emilio T. Yap,
