Angeles - PERSONALLY VISITS CEBU TO TAKE IN DURANO CLAN

The piracy being practiced by the ruling Liberal Party (LP) extended even to
parties and politicians identified with detained former President Gloria Arroyo
after President Aquino personally went to Cebu yesterday to administer the
oathtaking of family members of a political clan known as extremely close to
Aquino's predecessor.
Aquino sworn in as new LP members Danao Vice Mayor Nito Durano and the rest
of the local Bakud political party.
However, Aquino wasn't able to get the entire Durano clan as Cebu's original
LP leader and former Danao City Mayor Jesus "Don" Durano resigned apparently
feeling bad after he wasn't consulted about the recruitment and acceptance of
the new party members.
Former President Joseph Estrada had chided the Liberal Party in forming a new
coalition which was launched by "pirating" senatorial candidates from the United
Nationalist Alliance (UNA) which he heads along with Vice President Jejomar
Binay.
Estrada in describing the snatching of strong political bets said the
move "shows the weakness of the LP."
"That shows they cannot complete their lineup," Estrada had said.
The former Cebu mayor said he resigned because he was left out in major
decisions of forging an alliance with Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya, a
local party of Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III and Vice Gov. Agnes
Magpale.
In his resignation letter addressed to LP Cebu provincial chairman Hilario
Davide III, Don Durano said that for the past two weeks, they have been
informed, solely through reports in the media, of recent developments involving
LP, particularly in Danao City and Cebu's 5th district.
Don likewise assailed the nationbal LP leadership even as he claimed that in
the past election, they fought against all odds for the victory of President
Aquino, believing firmly that his leadership would usher new politics.
Unfortunately, the LP Cebu Provincial Chapter's moves-decided at the top without
consultation with those on the ground-have all the familiar signs of old,
traditional politics, he said.
Interestingly, Aquino's latest recruit Nito Durano and Magpale campaigned for
then presidential hopeful Gilbert Teodoro of Lakas-Kampi, the candidate of
former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The President visited Cebu to
formalize the Hilario Davide III-Agnes Magpale tandem for governor and vice
governor next year.

Aquino's Cebu visit was also seen as dividing the
Durano clan, as Danao City will be Durano versus Durano in the mayoralty race
next year.

The family feud firmed up with Danao City Mayor Ramon "Boy"
Durano Jr. announcing his plan for reelection with his younger brother, former
mayor Jesus "Don" Durano as runningmate.

Nito is running for Danao mayor
in 2013 with his son Rep. Ramon "Red" Durano VI of Cebu's 5th district as vice
mayor.

Also, contrary to reports hinting on the possibility of Sen.
Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III as running for senator as an independent, he is
with all certainty jumping ship from the opposition to the administration with
fellow senatorial aspirant Joel Villanueva as conduit.

Pimentel, however,
isn't inclined to turn his back on the PDP-Laban which his father co-founded
before 1986, but simply moved away from a person whom he described to have taken
away four years of his first term as senator.

Apparently referring to
former Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Pimentel went on to say that he would not want
to be in the same senate ticket with the very politician who benefited from the
2007 election fraud, even as he expressed desire to run side by side with
Technical Education and Skills Development Administration chief Joel
Villanueva.

Pimentel in a statement hinted the need for a younger Senate,
adding that fresh faces like him and Villanueva could offer so much idea apt for
the modern times. He however would not discount the capability of the Senate
elders whom he claims to have learned to be a good statesman.

The TESDA
chief is among the early preferences of President Aquino for the Liberal Party
2013 senatorial candidates, along with other second generation
politicians.

The newly formed 56-member congressional party-list bloc,
which recently adopted a consensus that would want at least one of the 24 senate
seats allotted to the marginalized sector, would initially have Villanueva as
their bet, the powerful bloc representing the "marginalized Filipinos" admits
they would not be able to secure passage of a bill amending laws governing
party-list representation and the Senate as an institution citing time
constraints.

In pushing Villanueva's Senate bid, Bagong Henerasyon Rep.
Bernadette Herrera said she herself is convinced that their bloc won't be able
to pass electoral reform bill which allocates a Senate seat for the party-list
group with just five working months left before members of both chambers tackle
the 2013 mid-term election.

Admitting they were short in preparations,
Herrera said they were backing Villanueva who possessed "a work attitude geared
on pushing legislative measures seen benefiting the marginalized sectors." Yacap
Rep. Carol Lopez hinted of an actively vocal party-list conduit representing
them in the Senate should Villanueva make it, with the Tesda chief assured of
the assistance of 56 incumbent party-list solons and the votes of one of the
country's biggest religious group where he and five million other members
belonged.

"Standing on a common denominator of being representatives of
the marginalized sectors, we decided to make the marginalized Filipinos a
formidable bloc in Congress by taking on the Senate through a senatorial
candidate seen to speak in behalf of sectors least heard or given attention,"
says Ako Bicol Rep. Pido Garbin, who also described Villanueva as a genuinely
sincere public servant.

"Now talking as one, the House party-list bloc is
solidly behind Villanueva and a bid to send him to the Senate not just as a
party-list conduit but the voice of the marginalized Filipinos," Alagad Rep.
Rodante Marcoleta said.

Villanueva is among President Aquino's early
preferences for inclusion in the Liberal Party's (LP) 2013 senate slate, despite
being an outsider. Villanueva isn't a member of the LP.

Justifying his
pick, Aquino said Villanueva appeared fit and qualified to become a member of
the Senate, where he could formulate bills that would ensure the global
competitiveness of Filipinos.

Trillanes joins Villar's Nacionalista Party
MANILA, Philippines - The Villar-led Nacionalista Party has sworn in
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as its newest member.
Senator Manny Villar said Trillanes symbolizes the party's advocacies,
including fighting for the rights of the poor and overseas Filipino workers.

Trillanes was sworn in Sunday during simple ceremonies held at the Makati
Shangri-la.
The oath-taking was witnessed by former Rep. Cynthia Villar, Senators Alan
Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
Cavite Rep. Boying Remulla and Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar were also in
attendance.
Trillanes, an ex-soldier, was known for leading several mutinies against the
administration of former President Gloria Arroyo.
Even while in detention, he joined the Genuine Opposition as guest candidate
and won a Senate seat in 2007.
He triggered another standoff in November that year in the Peninsula Manila,
where he also called for Arroyo's resignation.
Trillanes got his provisional freedom in late 2010.
The country's oldest political party is planning to form a coalition with the
administration Liberal Party and the Nationalist People's Coalition for the 2013
elections.
The coalition of the three parties is now generating discussions since it was
President Aquino's camp that supposedly coined the "VIllaroyo" tag, linking
Villar to Arroyo.
