Lara Quigaman and Marco Alcaraz: Making their relationship official at a
Christian wedding]
MANILA,
JUNE 8, 2012
(PHILSTAR) FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - Sweethearts for
three years, Marco Alcaraz and 2005 Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman
are making their relationship official by exchanging vows at a Christian wedding
on July 8 (Sunday) at Hacienda Isabella (owned by Kuh Ledesma who named it after
her daughter) in Tagaytay City.
Both Born-Again Christian, the couple initially scheduled their wedding in
October but they decided to move it earlier for the convenience of Precious'
siblings and relatives who are coming from Canada.
"It's summer so they will be here for vacation," said Marco whose family is
from Cebu. "Precious' siblings have to go back for the start of classes in
September, so October is not the right date."
Marco and Precious have met their respective families. They even visited
Precious' folks in Canada two years ago.
Asked where their honeymoon will be, Marco said that they might have to put
it on hold.
"Back to work kami," he said, adding in jest, "unless one of our ninongs and
ninangs will give us a 'honeymoon gift'."
Almost none of their principal sponsors are from showbiz.
"Those from showbiz that we have approached have politely declined," said
Marco, "kasi they were too young daw to be a ninong or a ninang."
No, they are not living together yet.
"We will after the wedding," added Marco.
It was Hollywood that 'invented' pick-up lines
"Kutsara ka ba?"
Bakit?
"Kasi, kapag nakikita kita napapanganga ako!"

That's Dennis Trillo's favorite pick-up line, although he admitted not using
any in breaking the ice with a girl he's meeting for the first time.
"It doesn't work, so I don't use any pick-up line to catch the attention of a
girl," said Dennis who is in the cast of Boy Pick-Up: The Movie, with Ogie
Alcasid in the title role, the first time ever that he's playing one ("So this
movie is very memorable to me," he said).
Directed by Dominic Zapata, the Regal/GMA joint venture is inspired by the
Kapuso gag show Bubble Gang which has revived interest in pick-up lines. Sen.
Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who cracks pick-up lines before delivering her speech
in campus forums, politely declined an invitation to be a guest in the movie,
sayang!
Anyway, as I was saying, it was Hollywood that "invented" pick-up lines in
classic movies that date back to the '30s, collected in cute cards featuring
scenes from the movie from which the lines were taken.
Here's the intro to the prized collection:
If Hollywood didn't invent the art of flirting, it surely came close to
perfecting it. The most romantic lines of all time are vintage Hollywood: A
fizzy cocktail of chemistry and craftsmanship, perfectly shaken. These are the
lines we all wish we'd said, pure sass and vinegar delivered with the precision
of an atomic clock. Say these with your own arched eyebrow and you, too, can
make history.
Here are three samples (in addition to what Funfare has published before):
*From Red Dust (MGM, 1932), starring Mary Astor (Barbara) and Victor Fleming
(as Dennis)
Barbara: Don't you think I could be happy?
Dennis: Would you mind if I made it my job to see that you are?
*From She Had To Say Yes (Warner Bros, 1933), starring Loretta Young (as
Florence) and Lyle Talbot (as Daniel):
Florence: I hate being pawned.
Daniel: Ah, but then maybe you've never been pawned properly.
*From They Drive By Night (Warner Bros, 1940), starring George Raft (as Joe)
and Ann Sheridan (as Cassie):
Joe: I always have liked redheads.
Cassie: You shouldn't. Red means stop.
Joe: I'm color-blind.
So what's your favorite pick-up line?
Here's mine:
"Ice-cream ka ba?"
Bakit?
"Kasi, you are so sweet baka maging diabetic ako."
Okey lang, I'm sugar-free.
"Mwahahahaha!!!"
Briefly noted:

stars Thanh Lam (leftmost) and Tung Duong]
• Last Friday, June 1, Christian Bautista and Kyla joined Vietnam's pop
singers Tung Duong and Thanh Lam at a corporate event held at the White Palace
Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Funfare correspondent Carlo Orosa, Christian and Kyla were
received warmly by the mostly Vietnamese members of the diplomatic corps,
government officials and the private sector.
Christian sang I Believe I Can Fly and Can't Take My Eyes Off You, and Kyla
sang Emotions and a Barbra Streisand medley. Then, they did a duet of We Could
Be In Love before singing We Are The World with Tung Duong and Thanh Lam.

• Also from Carlo Orosa: Jay-R, dubbed as the Platinum King of Soul and
R&B, couldn't get over his excitement about guesting in two big concerts at
the newly-opened MOA Arena recently — those of Edwin McCain and Taylor Dane, and
New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys.
"I will never forget how Donnie Wahlberg of NKOTB introduced me," said Jay-R.
"The Arena was vibrating with energy when Donnie came out and then he gave it to
me.
He was so down-to-earth." McCain, the voice behind the hit song I'll Be,
commented how amazing Jay-R's voice was. "That was cool!" added Jay-R.
