'ANAKBAYAN' YOUTH CALLS ON CJ TO BE
TRUTHFUL, TO SOLONS, SENATORS & PNoy TO LIVE UP TO SAME STANDARDS THEY
DEMAND OF CJ
MANILA, MAY
27, 2012 (Email TO PHNO) PRESS
STATEMENT For immediate release: As Chief Justice Renato Corona takes the
witness stand today, we call on the Filipino people to be most vigilant and
vocal in aspirations for accountability, justice and real change.
We call on CJ Corona to be truthful, to bare all and to respond to the
allegations against him. He is expected by the people to release his waiver
without conditions and respond to queries devoid of drama and spectacle.

Likewise, however, the
prosecution Congressmen, administration Senators, President Noynoy Aquino and
his government are called upon to live up to the same standards as what they
demand of the CJ.
The automatic refusal of Senator Drilon, Congressman Tupas and others to take
the CJ's challenge and sign the waivers is an indication of insincerity and
hypocrisy.
Amidst the circus, propaganda and lies, we should be reminded of what
triggered the impeachment trial and the more essential issues behind it.
Aquino's rage and determination to impeach CJ Corona came after the SC ruled in
favor of distribution of Hacienda Luisita to the farmers.
Aquino tried to pin on the CJ the blame for Arroyo's near-escape, when in
fact it is his government which failed to file charges versus the former
president after more than a year in office.
He is not really serious in making Arroyo accountable as seen by how the
prosecution has downplayed Arroyo-related charges, not to mention that Arroyo
has been allowed by the Palace to be placed under special hospital treatment.
If being untruthful is betrayal of public trust, then Noynoy and allies
should be held accountable for misleading the public during the impeachment and
wasting public funds and resources in their fishing expeditions and media
campaigns.
Meanwhile, Aquino's KKKKs (Kaklase, Kamag-anak, Kaibigan, Kabarilan)
and Akbayan friends are abusing public office and misusing funds for personal
and partisan interests.
Also, the impeachment has been used to distract the public from more
important issues: depressed wages amidst high prices, rising poverty,
joblessness, tuition hikes, among others.
The Aquino administration should not misinterpret the people's clamor for
transparency and accountability as support for its administration.
So far, it has failed to fulfill real reforms to benefit the people
especially the poor. The impeachment trial has also exposed its administration's
anti-people character further.
Whatever the outcome of today's hearings and decision next, let it be known
that the Filipino people will take none of the lies and deceit, especially from
the Aquino administration.
We demand real reforms, accountability and an end to the rotten corrupt
ruling system where an elite few oppress the many. ###

youth,
advocating genuine national independence and democracy as a solution
to the nation's problems.
It is open to anyone from 13 to 35 years old, and currently has a
20,000-strong membership across the Philippines and in several cities in
the U.S and Canada.
It is not a partylist group and is in no way
affiliated with the pro-Aquino group
'Akbayan.'
ABOUT ANAKBAYAN:
Anakbayan is the comprehensive, national democratic mass organization of the
Filipino youth.
Established on the 30th of November 1998–the anniversary of Andres' Bonifacio
and pre-Martial Law organization, Kabataang Makabayan–it seeks to unite the
youths from different sectors of society to advance the cause of national
democracy: workers, peasants, fisherfolk, urban poor, students, out-of-school
youth, women, professionals, migrants, Moros, Christians, etc.
It is open to all Filipino youths (ages 13-35 yrs. old) as long as they are
willing to actively uphold the Program of the Organization.
Anakbayan holds the belief that Philippine society today is not truly free
nor democratic. It is under the control of U.S imperialism, along with local
landlords, big capitalists, and corrupt gov't officials.
The National Democratic Struggle seeks to realize true national liberation
for the country and the realization of the democratic rights of the people.

Senator Drilon, 188 congressmen should sign the waivers –
Anakbayan by Anakbayan on May 24, 2012 • 6:00 am• 1 Comment
We call on the 188 congressmen and Senator Franklin Drilon to take up
the challenge of Chief Justice Corona to sign the waivers disclosing to the
public their bank accounts and financial records.
While we believe that it would have been better if the Chief Justice did not
bind his disclosure with such condition, it should not be difficult for the
advocates of impeachment to sign the waivers as a gesture of sincerity and
commitment to transparency and accountability in government.
President Aquino should immediately order his allies to sign the waiver and
use the same swiftness and determination with which they railroaded the approval
of the impeachment complaint in the Lower House last year. If they could do it
then, it should not be a problem now.
Since the start of the trial, they have used public funds and attention
better spent on many other issues.
They went on fishing expeditions and conducted propaganda campaigns just to
build a case against the CJ.
Now that an opportunity to put the truth out in the open presents itself,
signing a sheet of paper should not be a problem for the crusaders.
They owe the public, which they misled not a few times, at least this
much.
