PHNO-HL: TRILLANES: I HAVE GIVEN THE NAMES OF COUP PLOTTERS TO PRES. AQUINO

TRILLANES: I HAVE GIVEN THE NAMES
OF COUP PLOTTERS TO PRES. AQUINO

MANILA, MARCH 11, 2012
(STANDARD) DIVULGING the names of those in the Armed Forces who
are recruiting people to join a coup against President Benigno Aquino III is not
allowed by national security policies, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said on
Sunday would be against policies in national security.
"I have already given the names to President Aquino," Trillanes told the
Manila Standard.
"It would be against the policy of national security to disclose those names
in public."
Trillanes said he had also given a copy of the list containing the names to
National Security Adviser Cesar Garcia.
He made the statement after amid the calls for him to name names in the
alleged coup plot being hatched against the administration.
Trillanes said "Not more than 10" after he was asked how many names were on
the list.
Trillanes earlier said that retired Armed Forces officers were recruiting
active officers against the administration of President Aquino.
"These are the people who were removed from power but who want to return,"
Trillanes said in Filipino.
"Their recruitment line is that the government is now being run by
communists."
Meanwhile, retired Marine Col. Generoso Mariano on Sunday said he had
elevated his case to the Supreme Court to restrain a military court
investigating him for allegedly violating three Articles of War when he uploaded
a video in the Internet criticizing President Aquino.
Mariano, who is being held at the Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, said
he believed Malacañang was responsible for his prolonged camp arrest.
In the video footage that Mariano said was uploaded by the group Solidarity
for Sovereignty and not by him, Mariano had criticized the Aquino administration
for doing nothing to improve the lives of poor Filipinos and called on the
public to "replace the government."
Mariano was named best Marine battalion commander in 2006 and 2009.
In the 1989 coup attempt against Mr. Aquino's mother Corazon, the bloodiest
of the nine coup attempt against her administration, Mariano was among the rebel
soldiers who were caught and sent to jail. John Anthony
