MANILA,
MARCH 14, 2012 (ABS-CBN) by
Dharel Placido, abs-cbnNEWS.com - The police on Tuesday said they are eyeing
personal grudge as the possible motive behind the attempt to kill Malacañang
beat reporter Fernan Angeles last Sunday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director, Chief Superintendent
Alan Purisima, said they have already identified the suspect who mauled and shot
Angeles in Pasig City.
Purisima, however, did not reveal the name of the suspect, whom police allege
holds a personal grudge against the "The Daily Tribune" journalist.
Purisima's statement runs contrary to several media organizations' belief
that Angeles' shooting was work-related.
Angeles' wife, Gemma, on Monday said her husband himself told her the
identity of the assailant. However, she expressed concerned with coordinating
with the Pasig City police, whom she alleged are connected to a drug syndicate
operating in the city that has been the subject of Angeles' recent exposés.
She also questioned Pasig City police's move to immediately clean the crime
scene even if investigators have not yet arrived.
Fernan wants to give up
Meanwhile, Gemma also shared that her husband is now responding to her
questions through writing. She, however, was saddened after her husband
expressed that he wants to give up fighting for his life.
"Isinulat ng kanyang mister na hindi na daw niya kaya ang kalagayan ngayon,
at parang may indikasyon na gusto niya nang sumuko," dzMM reporter Johnson
Manabat said.
Gemma then told her husband that many journalists and concerned individuals
are helping them. It was then that tears fell from Fernan's eye.
Media groups on Monday raised a P100,000 bounty for anyone who could give
information that will lead to the arrest of Angeles' attacker.
The National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC), Alyansa ng Filipinong
Mamamahayag (Afima) and Alab ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) also urged President Aquino
to abolish current investigative bodies going after attackers and killers of
journalists.
The groups want the Palace to form a new group to solve and end media
attacks.
Twelve journalists have been killed in the country since Aquino assumed the
presidency, according to the NPC. – with a report from Edwin
