Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao announced that his three-week training camp
in Baguio City for his upcoming title defense against Timothy Bradley on June 9
in Las Vegas would begin on April 16.
During an interview with reporters at the GMA 7 office over the weekend,
Pacquiao said that his trainer Freddie Roach and strength and conditioning coach
Alex Ariza are set to arrive in the Philippines mid-April to put him through a
rigid training camp.
"In the middle of April or at least on the 16th, I'll go to Baguio to hone my
skills. But right now, I'm doing pre-conditioning workouts here in Manila to
make my body ready when the training camp starts," Pacquiao said.
After the training camp in Baguio, Pacquiao will fly to Roach's Wildcard gym
in Los Angeles, California for the final phase of his training.
The 33-year-old Pacquiao (54-3-2 win-loss-draw card with 38 knockouts) said
he is not underestimating the younger and unbeaten Bradley (28-0 with 12 KOs),
knowing well the junior welterweight champion has the skills and killer punches
to upset him.
Ariza, Pacquiao's strength and conditioning coach for his part said he has no
doubt that the Filipino ring icon could whip himself into a killer shape in no
time, "He (Manny) is still very enthusiastic. He wants to start training, he
wants to go back to the plyometrics and strength conditioning," Ariza told
boxing website badlefthook.com. "He would go back to how he trained when he
fought Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto."
The strength and conditioning guru also has a comment on Pacquiao's renewed
zeal as a Christian, "I'm also willing to go to every church and every bible
study he wants me to do as long as he does what I ask him to do, training-wise,"
Ariza told boxingscene.com.
Ariza aims to remedy the cramps that Pacquiao experienced during his third
fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, "We didn't have any problems then. If we get
back to that program we are not going to have problems anymore."

Pacquiao Worried About Being Underweight By NICK
GIONGCO March 24, 2012, 10:58pm
MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao has told the Bulletin that he is a bit
bothered about his weight not because he has gained excess baggage the last few
months but for the reason that he is actually underweight.
Less than three months before he meets Tim Bradley on June 9 in Las Vegas,
Pacquiao said that even if he is on vacation and eating what he likes without
hesitation, he doesn't add up extra weight like many active fighters do when
they're not in training.
"I can still make 135 lbs (lightweight)," said Pacquiao, who now campaigns at
147 lbs (welterweight) and whose World Boxing Organization crown will be on the
line at the MGM Grand.
Of course, it would push Pacquiao to the limit to make 135 but the fact that
he weighs in the low 140s during training the last three years is testament to
his being a naturally small guy and not the beast that his knockout victims have
portrayed him to be.
"Right now, I am about 150 lbs," said Pacquiao, implying that as soon as he
goes into training mode, his weight would drop a few pounds.
In the coming days and weeks, Pacquiao would be teaming up with conditioning
coach Alex Ariza in preparing him for the start of training camp proper in
Baguio City on April 16.
Pacquiao started his career at light-flyweight (108 lbs), fought a number of
years at flyweight (112) where he won his first world title in 1998 and went on
to capture championships at super-bantam (122), feather (126), super-feather
(130), lightweight (130), junior-welter (140), welter (147) and even
super-welter (154).
Pacquiao, who turns 34 in December, said he will fight two or three more
times before finally calling it quits as he has been pressured heavily by his
family.
