NO DAY-OFF FOR PNoy ON B-day / TO
BOC: BEST ROAD IS 'DAANG MATUWID'

MANILA, FEBRUARY 7, 2012
(MALAYA) IT will be business as usual for President Aquino when
he turns 52 February 7.
"It's the same day for me… On Wednesday, I intend to work fully. I intend to
spend the evening studying matters that need my attention.
Kung may mga magdadasal para sa akin di thank you. Kung may babatikos sa
akin, ganoon talaga 'yon.
Wala namang day-off sa birthday," the President said in an interview at the
110th anniversary celebration of the Bureau of Customs.
Asked on his plans for Valentine's Day now that he has confirmed "seeing"
Korean TV-radio celebrity Grace Lee, the President said that everyone should
just wait and see.
"Abangan na lang natin kung may mangyayari," the President said. – Jocelyn Montemayor
Aquino to BOC: Best road is 'Daan Matuwid'
President Aquino yesterday, Feb 6, urged the rank and file of the Bureau of
Customs (BOC) on the agency's 110th founding anniversary celebration, to do
their jobs well and stick to his "Daan Matuwid" advocacy.
estado," the President said.
Aquino reiterated government's commitment to go after unscrupulous
individuals who serve as obstacles in the nation's progress.
He said government will continue to do all to bring back to the people the
spirit of integrity and love for country.
Aquino underscored the public's role in helping government attain its goals
in uplifting the standard of living of millions through various developmental
programs.
"Ako po ay nakikusap muli, tulungan ninyo ako, iayos natin 'yung sistema at
sisiguraduhin ko naman pong iaayos rin po ang inyong estado ng atin pong
pamahalaan," he said.
The President also called the attention of some BOC personnel whose ill
practices involved allowing the illegal entry of a suitcase of iPads, smuggled
motorcycles, and smuggling of firearms including rocket propelled grenade and
mortars, illegal drugs, rice and oil.
Aquino said in oil alone, government loses some P40 billion a year in terms
of fees and other taxes which could have been spent on the construction of
218,000 low cost houses.
He also cited the case of customs clerk Paulino Elevado who while earning
P10,000 a month, was able to buy a Porsche he was driving when he allegedly
tried to gun down two students during a traffic altercation last January 21.

Customs Commissioner Rozanno Rufino Biazon said the Bureau posted record cash
collection of P256.810 billion for 2011, the highest collection so far in the
agency's history.
Biazon, however, said that in January, their collection was only P23 billion
instead of the P26-billion target. – Jocelyn
