Asia's first 24/7 Telenovela Channel airs on Satellite TV Channel 10 and hundreds of local cable operators nationwide and direct-to-home TV services. This was announced recently by Pelita Peralta-Uy, managing director of Beginnings at Twenty Plus which has partnered with Televisa Internacional, producer of such worldwide hit soaps as Marimar, Rubi and Maria La del Barrio, among others.
The Telenovela Channel is for free. "Due to public demand for the channel, specially from our regional viewers, we have decided that the channel must be offered for free. This is our gift to Filipinos," said Uy.
Those who wish to have the channel would just have to call their local cable operators and request the channel. Unlike other channels, local cable operators may carry the Telenovela Channel free of charge, added Uy. She also assured everyone that the channel will reach the whole archipelago, even transcending terrestrial obstacles.
"We know that there are Filipinos who live beyond cable TV reach but still want to watch Telenovela Channel so we also deliver the channel for direct-to-home television," she said. "Direct-to-home TV is an alternative to cable TV in places where cable television is difficult to install. So even if you're in the most far-flung areas or in the most secluded mountain, the channel can reach you. Dream Satellite TV also agreed to carry the channel on Channel 10, so with Dream's reach, we are confident that we can touch many lives. This is also true with the channel's vision, to bring the drama closer to millions of Filipinos and we are true to our word."
But the features of Telenovela Channel do not stop there. Thoughtfully considering a full range of viewer demographics and ethnicity, the channel's telenovelas will not only be dubbed in Tagalog, but will also be offered in its original Spanish tongue with English subtitles. The challenge of using Philippine dialects is also one of the things that we wish to transcend so we also feature the telenovelas in Spanish, of course with English subtitles," Uy explained.
