AFTER 'PINOY TASTY', HERE COMES CHEAPER 'PINOY PANDESAL'
MANILA, SEPTEMBER 24, 2011 (MALAYA) BAKERS will launch next month Pinoy Pandesal, which like its predecessor Pinoy Tasty is cheaper than branded ones.
Simplicio Umali Jr., president of the Philippine Baking Industry Group, said the product will be sold P25 per pack of 10 pieces (250 grams) in supermarkets, groceries and convenience stores by October 11 This translates to P2.50 per 25-gram pieces.
Prices of packed branded pandesal start at P35 for 250 grams.
Community bakers offer their 25-gram pandesal at a still lower P2 a piece.
Umali said Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo will launch on October 6 the Pinoy Pandesal, a joint project of Philbaking, Filipino-Chinese Bakeries Association and the Federation of Bakers. "This is a more affordable, yet as delicious and nutritious pandesal," Umali said.,
Trade Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said flour millers were given until next week to submit their individual acquisition costs.
This is in the wake of declining flour prices due to lower wheat costs.
Two weeks ago, Maglaya asked millers to submit their data but only SMC Flour Mills me the deadline last Friday.
DTI officials said while flour prices have dropped to as low as P880 per bag, they want to see further reductions as wheat prices have declined to $400 per metric ton from $520 in May and June
Maglaya said they are looking at possible overpricing by a canned sardines manufacturer.
Manufacturer for probable overpricing and to ask flour millers to roll back their prices.
Maglaya said the manufacturer recently increased its price by 75 centavos because of what it claimed was a 50 percent increase in the price of fresh sardines, a claim doubted by the DTI..
The manufacturer is planning to increase prices by another 25 to 30 centavos per can by October 1, bringing total price increases in a two-month period to P1.05.
"If they go ahead with the increase and we do not find it justifiable, we will ask them to bring down their prices," Maglaya said.
"The increase should just be 25 to 30 centavos," Maglaya said.
Pinoy Tasty, Loaf Bread
Perhaps you have seen the Pinoy Tasty if you are one of those mall goers. This tasty (loaf bread) is a project of Department of Trade of Industry (DTI) and a group of Bakers.
I guessed this bread has nothing to with President Noynoy Aquino. The spelling is Pinoy and not PNOY, the abbreviation of President Noynoy.
Loaf bread price range from 42-47 pesos but Pinoy Tasty cost only 36 pesos. A a maximum of 10 peso price difference.
Pinoy tasty has limited amount of ingredients. It has no eggs, milk, margarine and bread improver. They also used a cheaper version of sugar, wash sugar (maybe segunda or brown sugar)
The label claimed that it is cheap and nutritious. It is fortified with iron and Vitamin A. I have not tasted it yet because I have no time to go to supermarket. The nearest one is a two hours travel.
I wonder if it is really tasty, delicious, even if eggs, milk and margarine are omitted. The bread loaf below is really delicious. I love eating it even without mayonnaise, peanut butter, jam or any kind of spread. I hope the Pinoy tasty is not different to this.
