MANILA, Philippines - The Aquino government's net satisfaction rating dropped to 46 in March from a record high 64 in the previous quarter, a latest survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed.
The SWS poll, conducted from March 4 to 7, found 65 percent of 1,200 respondents satisfied and 18 percent dissatisfied with the overall performance of the Aquino administration, for a "good" net rating of 46.
The remaining 16 percent of the respondents were undecided, it said.
The new score was down by 18 percentage points from its "very good" ratings of 64 recorded in September and November last year, according to the results of the SWS survey published in the newspaper BusinessWorld yesterday.
Satisfaction with the government's performance dropped in all areas except Metro Manila, and across all socio-economic classes, the SWS said.
The survey showed that satisfaction with the national government was "very good" in both Metro Manila and the Visayas, but fell to "good" in the rest of Luzon and Mindanao.
The net score rose to 50 from 49 in Metro Manila, down by eight points to 51 in the Visayas, and declined by 20 and 27 points, respectively, to 47 and 42 in Mindanao and the rest of Luzon.
By socioeconomic class, net satisfaction fell by 15 points but stayed "very good" at 50 among the class E, dropped 18 to a "good" 46 among the class D, and dipped 43 points to a "moderate" 19 among the ABC class.

However, the pollster said the government's latest score is still higher than the ratings obtained by the previous four administrations.
Meanwhile, the survey also showed that the government scored "good" on seven out of 15 key issues, "moderate" on six and "neutral" on two.
The government obtained "good" net ratings on the issues of helping the poor (47), foreign relations (44), setting a good moral example (44), disaster preparedness (43), reconciliation with both Muslim and communist (32 and 31, respectively) and housing programs for the poor (30).
It received "moderate" ratings on the issues of fighting terrorism (29), suppressing private armies in Mindanao (24), deciding quickly on important problems (23), acting according to what the people want (23), fighting crimes (20) and eradicating graft and corruption (14).
"Neutral" scores, on the other hand, were obtained on the issues of ensuring no hunger (5) and fighting inflation (net zero).
SWS said the Aquino administration's net ratings on setting a good moral example (a 47-point increase), deciding quickly (a 29-point improvement), reconciliation with Muslim and communist rebels (gains of three and four points, respectively), and suppressing private armies in Mindanao (up seven points) were new record highs.
The government's score on the issue of acting on what the people want rose by 25 points while its score on helping the poor remained unchanged, the SWS said.
Declines, however, were noted on the issues of disaster preparedness (down two points), housing programs for the poor (down three), fighting terrorism (down three), fighting crime (down four), eradicating graft and corruption (down eight), fighting inflation (down seven), foreign relations (down 11), and ensuring no hunger (down six points).
The SWS defines net satisfaction scores of 70 and above as "excellent;" 50 to 69, "very good;" 30 to 49, "good;" 10 to 29, "moderate;" 9 to -9, "neutral;" -10 to -29, "poor;" -30 to -49, "bad;" -50 to -69, "very bad;" -70 and below, "execrable."
The SWS survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide.
Consistent
But even with the drop, Malacañang said it is important to note that satisfaction with the administration remains at near-record levels.
"We are confident that as the President's programs for keeping transport costs down, improving the efficiency of agriculture, attracting investments and providing jobs further expand, the public will be reassured," presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a statement. – With Delon Porcalla
