PHNO-SB: WILLIE RETRACTS THREATS TO SUE CELEBRITY 'ATTACKERS'

WILLIE RETRACTS THREATS TO SUE CELEBRITY 'ATTACKERS'

MANILA, APRIL 19, 2011 (BULLETIN) By JULIEN MERCED C. MATABUENA ('Dr. Carandang fires back at Revillame's lawyer')
Willie Revillame will no longer sue the celebrities whom he claimed "attacked" him on Twitter.
"Hindi na ho," Revillame was quoted by PEP on April 18 as saying during a dzIQ Radyo Inquirer radio interview on April 15 when asked by anchors Mon Tulfo and Reysie Amado if he still plans to press charges against said celebrities.
Recall that in the April 8 episode of "Willing Willie," Revillame threatened to file a case against the prominent personalities whom he alleged, "attacked" and "judged" him via the microblogging site in light of the Jan-Jan controversy. The list included APO Hiking Society member Jim Paredes, internationally acclaimed theater performer Lea Salonga, singer Aiza Seguerra, TV host Bianca Gonzales, comediennes Tuesday Vargas and K Brosas, actresses Agot Isidro and Mylene Dizon, and singer-turned-political activist Leah Navarro.
"Kung idedemanda ka ng TV5, idedemanda rin kita. Magdedemandahan tayo. Idedemanda ko lahat ng tumira sa akin sa Twitter. Lahat ng personal, tandaan mo 'yan!," Revillame exclaimed.
In the radio interview, Revillame reiterated that he did no wrong and that he was prejudged.
"Alam n'yo, ganun talaga ang buhay. Ang masama lang, humuhusga sila na hindi pa nila alam ang kabuuan, ang istorya.
"E, paano kami magtutulung-tulungan kung ganyan — hati, hindi ho ba? Tsaka masama ho yata yung ganung naghuhusga ka sa kapwa mo na hindi mo pa alam ang totoo," said he though not expounding further on his change of heart.
Revillame went on to thank the TV5 management for their continued support, quoting TV5 president Atty. Rey Espinosa who apparently told him, "'Alam mo Willie, kaya ka namin sinusuportahan dahil alam naming wala kang kasalanan. Kaya kami all the way para sa 'yo.'"
The beleaguered host also related that he continues to help the six-year old boy and his family, and that he recently gave them a house and lot courtesy of his friend Sen. Manny Villar.
More, Revillame implied that his former mother network, ABS-CBN, may have involvement with his latest case. While he said that he's not accusing anyone of anything, he did say that someone may be "nakikihalubilo" and "nakikisawsaw."
This prompted Tulfo to agree with Revillame, "Kasi yung kay Carandang na lang, e, nanay ito pala ni Ricky Carandang na taga-ABS-CBN o galing sa ABS-CBN."
Prior to becoming Presidential Communications Group spokesperson, Ricky Carandang was anchor of ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC). He is the son of child psychologist Dr. Ma. Lourdes "Honey" Carandang, who was recently sued by the six-year old boy's parents for libel after she commented that the host committed "child abuse" in the March 12 episode of "Willing Willie."
On April 15, Dr. Carandang aired her side through the MLAC Institute for Children and Families' official website.
"In recent days, it has been insinuated by the lawyers of Revillame that I am part of some grand conspiracy to 'bring down' Revillame and his TV program. This is simply not true. I merely expressed an opinion as solicited by the CHR and the MTRCB," a part of her statement read.
"In the letter [to MTRCB], I expressed my condemnation of the abuse of Jan-Jan by the show's host Willie Revillame and urged the MTRCB to take strong action against Revillame and the show's producers. It is my belief, as a clinical psychologist, parent, and TV viewer that the treatment of that child on the program was indeed a form of abuse. It is a view that is apparently shared by a significant number of people both here and now abroad," she explained.
She laid out several "facts" to clear her name, beginning with saying that the Suans, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), "were scheduled for counseling with me" on April 11 but "they never showed up."
The following day, Dr. Carandang said she went to to the meeting with Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairman Etta Rosales "to share my expertise as an expert on child abuse in connection with the Jan-Jan episode on 'Willing Willie.'"
Asked if she thought there was child abuse within the Suan family, the child psychologist replied, "I CANNOT SAY WHETHER THERE WAS ABUSE IN JAN-JAN'S FAMILY BECAUSE I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OF THEM IN PERSON AND THEREFORE I CANNOT MAKE ANY PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF JAN-JAN AND HIS FAMILY."
In a separate statement on April 17, Dr. Carandang addressed the "irresponsible statement" by Revillame's lawyer against the MLAC.
"To correct the irresponsible statement being repeatedly made by Atty. Leonardo de Vera, I would like to categorically state that the MLAC Institute for Children and Families is not funded in any way at all by ABS-CBN or any of its affiliates," she said.
On April 13, ABS-CBN's Corporate Communications Head Bong Osorio denied de Vera's insinuation that the network has anything to do with the Jan-Jan controversy.
