NOY'S WISH FOR WILL, KATE: PRIVACY TO BUILD A LIFE

MANILA, APRIL 29, 2011 (STAR) By Aurea Calica - President Aquino wishes United Kingdom's Prince William and Kate Middleton well on the occasion of their wedding and hopes that the international media will give them privacy to build a good marriage foundation.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda (photo at right) said in a press briefing in Malacañang yesterday that Aquino could sympathize with the couple, being a public figure himself living in a fish bowl.

Lacierda disclosed he was able to talk to the President about the royal wedding and the Chief Executive said the two would have to make adjustments as husband and wife now.

"He also realizes that since they are a very public couple, they need to make adjustments after their wedding. They need to make adjustments so that their marriage foundation can be established. So he hopes that the media will afford them some level of privacy in order for them to establish their marriage foundation," Lacierda said.

Lacierda noted the President was "speaking from experience, in a sense that they are living in a fishbowl."

"He sympathizes with them because he knows they are going to be in the public eye. It is going to be a fishbowl existence starting (today). So he hopes that they will be given some level of privacy by the international media. But again, he wishes them well in their new life ahead as husband and wife," he said.

Some two billion people are expected to watch the royal wedding on television.

Prince William, second in line to the British throne, is marrying Middleton, his long-term girlfriend, today in Westminster Abbey in London.

The couple met at St. Andrews University in 2001 when they were studying history of art.

Middleton, who is six months older than William, was credited with persuading the Prince to stay on as he struggled to adjust to university life during his first year.

She is the eldest child of businessman Michael Middleton and former flight attendant Carol. She was raised in a modern five-bedroom detached house in the Berkshire village of Bucklebury.

The Middletons, who are self-made millionaires, run a mail order toy and party goods company.

The couple will marry in the year that would have marked the 30th wedding anniversary of Prince William's parents, Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
