MANILA, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 (STAR) FUNFARE UPDATE By Ricardo F. Lo - Swift: Eager to connect with her fans at her Big Dome concert tomorrow night.
No media interviews for Taylor Swift who's arriving tonight from other parts of Asia (Seoul, Osaka and Tokyo) where she has just done SRO concerts. But tomorrow night when she performs at the Big Dome (tickets were sold out as early as December last year), Swift will connect with her fans through her songs.
"I can convey my feelings better through my music," Swift admitted last year in an exclusive e-mail interview with The STAR, the only Philippine paper she agreed to talk to. "I've been writing songs since I was 12 and I realized that I could say exactly how I felt in a song far better than I could talking to a person face-to-face."
The Big Dome three-part stage has been designed purposely to enable Swift to be near her fans, mostly in the Patron Section portions of which were emptied of seats to give way to a "third stage." The main stage is at the front where Swift's back-up band will be. Another, smaller stage, was built from which Swift will go down the aisle while singing four or five songs and, hopefully, shaking hands with her fans. Between the two stages is a special section reserved for VIPs. Then, Swift will go up the "third stage" at the back of the Parron Section, almost at the level with the Lower Box Section, and sing more songs before she goes back to the main stage.
"It's part of her act," said Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions which is producing perhaps his company's biggest concert so far. "It's because she likes to be as near her fans as possible."
That's why security will be very tight during the concert since fans will surely be emotional and get carried away, and swarm around Swift in a mad rush to shake her hands, have pictures taken with her and, why not, kiss her.
"The Hong Kong producer has decided to scrap the 'third stage' due to security reasons," another informer told Funfare Update. Hong Kong is her next stop after Manila.
But just being with Swift under one big roof is, I suppose, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for her fans. Hearing her sing songs "live" especially from her latest albums Fearless and Speak Now, both released in the Philippines by MCA Music, Inc., is worth more than their time and money.
Asked what kind of music she liked, Swift said, "I have a varied playlist --- one for people who come to my house, one for working out and some for listening pleasure. I also love the music of some of my friends like Hayley Williams and Katy Perry. I love Katy's new song, Teenage Dream."
Some of Swift songs are inspired by her experiences, such as when she broke up with a boyfriend (somebody else and not Jake Gyllenhaal with whom she reportedly recently split after a brief romance).
Incidentally, Odyssey Music and Video together with Close-Up, Skin White Teens and MCA Music, Inc., are presenting Enchanted: Taylor Swift Grand Fans Day at the SM Megamall Activity Center, featuring live performances from local artists Yssa, Krissy and Ericka, DJ and Micah, and acoustic artists Sabrina, all of them singing Taylor Swift hits.
Eugene Domingo: Lucky with numbers Is Eugene TV5's answer to Kris A.?
Because she's hosting the game show Lucky Numbers on the Kapatid Network TV5, which replaces P.O.5 (on its farewell episode on Sunday, Feb. 20) effective next Sunday, Feb. 27, Eugene Domingo is being pitted with Kris Aquino, the unchallenged Queen of Talk, whose new game show The Price Is Right premiered on ABS-CBN last Monday.
But Eugene nipped in the bud any such comparison/competition.
"If there's somebody I would compete with," said Eugene, "she's nobody but myself."
The game show is based on Magic Numbers, the most engaging live game entertainment show in the UK. TV5 has decided to give the Philippine version a "local touch." Through their mobile phones, viewers can win a fortune when owners join the play-at-home competition.
"They can turn numbers (on the celfones) into gold," said Eugene.
More surprises coming up. Stay tuned on TV5 next Sunday, Feb. 27, when Lucky Numbers premieres at 1 p.m. Get your celfones ready.
