LOREN L IS LOVELY EVEN IF LOVELESS
MANILA, FEBRUARY 23, 2011 (STAR) [Photo is loading...Sen. Loren Legarda: Happily single]
Loren L is lovely even if loveless FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - Unfazed by her back-breaking job in the Senate, Loren Legarda amazes many people by looking forever young, never mind if she insists that she's "loveless," the rumors linking her to the leader of an Asian country notwithstanding.
So what keeps lovely in lovelessness?

"Yoga," Sen. Loren told a dozen writer-friends whom she treated to a lunch of native goodies at her house in Forbes Park last Monday, her belated blowout for her 51st birthday last Jan. 28. "I do it every morning," she added and stood up from the kabisera of the long dining table to demonstrate how she does it.
From where they were seated, everybody had a good view — through the glass wall, clearly — of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe colorfully painted on ceramic tiles, cemented on the fence.
"It gives me so much peace looking at it everytime I sit down for a meal," said Loren who inherited it from her late mom, Bessie Bautista-Legarda, together with more than a dozen other images of the Virgin Mary that light up one whole wall of the dining room.
Saying it was boring (and nakakasawa) having lunch or dinner get-together in restaurants, Loren this time decided to serve her friends an all-native menu consisting of her favorite kinilaw from her native Malabon ("Where I waded in the floods as a kid"), kare-kare, Macau lumpia, etc., with assorted fruits and pastries (also from Malabon) for dessert.
But the most mouth-watering and juiciest items on the menu were the showbiz tsismis that were kept off-the-record (those who squealed would be stricken off the guest list for the next salu-salo, no kidding!). Did I hear the "victims" biting their tongues and wondering why? (That's what the old folks say — you know, that when you bite your tongue, it means you are being talked about, or remembered with fondness.)
Asked how she spent the last Valentine's Day, Loren said, "Alone."
She had a quiet dinner at home with son Lean (other son Lanz is studying in London where he moved from New York; both are columnists for this paper's Life section) and then she went to bed presumably with the air-con turned off because she easily gets cold (lamigin). Maybe she needs a human blanket to keep her warm?
"Wala nga, eh," Loren was firm. "Wala talaga."
It was a light and breezy lunch, spiced up with exchanges of morsels about the latest showbiz scandals, and there was no talk about politics at all.
Oh well, like the "usual restaurant food," Loren opted to stay away from politics, at least while she was with her writer-friends.
Mother Lily set to 'draw blood'
I won't be surprised if one of these days, Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde will invite Regal and other stars and draw blood from them — literally.
"I will do that," promised Mother Lily who, together with daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo, were inducted as PRO with other officers of the Red Cross Quezon City Chapter by Philippine Red Cross chairman/CEO Richard Gordon. "Besides blood, I will ask the stars to give financial donation to the Red Cross."

It's good news to Rosal Rosal, Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) governor who was invited to the affair but begged off due to a previous commitment.
"The Red Cross badly needs money," Rosa has been saying over and over again, sounding like a broken record, her pleas sadly falling on deaf ears. (Paging Kris Aquino! If you're reading this, please call your Kuya P-Noy's attention to the plight of the Red Cross.)
Maybe Mother Lily can make a noise more noticeable than that of Rosa's.
The other officers of the Red Cross Q.C. Chapter are: Dr. Edna Azurin, president; Hermogenes Jarin, vice chairman; Maria Paz Ugalde, secretary; Ma. Elisa Allado, assistant secretary; Rosalind Wee, treasurer; Alberto Galarpe, assistant treasurer; Teofista Pajara, auditor; Alfredo Alex Cruz III, counselor; and Ernesto Isla, business manager.
Wendell Ramos now a Kapatid
BREAKING NEWS: Wendell Ramos (photo) has ceased to be a Kapuso and is now a Kapatid. Wendell's move from GMA Network to TV5 came as a little surprise because he was the least 'suspect' to change colors, after all it was the Kapuso Network that has been his home for many years. Wendell taped his farewell episode for Bubble Gang the other night. His transfer was with the blessings of the Kapuso bigwigs.
