KRIS HAPPY FOR AI-AI'S MMFF WIN / KRIS LORDS OVER "THE BUZZ"
MANILA, DECEMBER 29, 2010 (BULLETIN) By NEIL RAMOS - Presidential sister Kris Aquino and her family prayed for comedian Ai Ai de las Alas' best actress win for "Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To" in the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival 2010.
Aquino revealed so in an interview with "Umagang Kay Ganda" right after the award ceremonies held at the Meralco Theater, Dec. 26.
"Sabi nila na sana daw kay Ai Ai mapunta, so friendship I'm so happy for you, you got your wish," said she.
Aquino defended De las Alas from talks that the latter does not deserve the award by citing that the latter gave her best. She added that De las Alas herself predicted the win even as she [Aquino] tried to contradict her by saying the film wasn't even a dramatic vehicle.
"Sabi ko sa kanya, Ano ka ba hindi ka drama. Tapos sabi niya, 'Ako ang mananalo, friendship.' So tama," Aquino said.
Aquino wasn't in the running for the same award, what with her movie, the self-produced "Dalaw," having been shut-out in many of the categories.
Still, she is happy that "Dalaw" earned well at the box-office, ranking number three in terms of ticket sales.
"Kasi as I've always said ang pinaka-importante ang pagbayad ng tao ng pinaghirapan nilang pera sa takilya, hindi ba? So for me that is award enough. So I would like to thank everybody. Consistent kami, on day 2 pang number 3 kami. So thank you," she said, quickly adding, "Kung hindi ako kumikita, didibdibin ko ito [not getting an award] ng husto pero dahil kumikita ang pelikula ay super happy ako."
Kris lords over 'The Buzz' after-Christmas episode By ANYA SANTOS December 27, 2010, 1:10pm
MANILA, Philippines - It was the day after Christmas and Kris Aquino, in a floor-length red gown, was the special guest co-host on "The Buzz."
Right off the bat, just as the hosts—Boy Abunda also in red, Toni Gonzaga in a short, sexy purple dress and KC in a virginal white knee-length dress—enter the set, Kris immediately wielded her powers of persuasion. She readily asked the show for a Christmas gift—to lay off on a report on her brother, Philippine President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino.
"'Yung story tungkol kay Noy, tanggalin na lang natin kasi mag-aaway kami after… Please," she implored. "Pagbigyan naman natin ang presidente na lumigaya ang puso niya by giving him his privacy."
Addressing the president, who's presumably watching, she added: "O, Noy ha, I'm such a changed sister. I love you!"
Kris asked the other lady co-hosts how their Christmases were. KC related she battled a bout with cough and rested while family got together; Toni was with her family on the 24th and Paul's family on the 25th—their fourth Christmas together. Boy said he took this time to bond with his mother, especially, and the rest of his family; and read the book, "Conversations with Myself" by Nelson Mandela—a gift from Kris.
Kris' Christmas itinerary
Taking up the airtime for the majority of the opening segment to talk about her Christmas activities, Kris began by sharing her Dec. 24 schedule of joining the Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) 2010 parade and then going to mass where she cried during Fr. Arrevalo's sermon "about moms." Relating it with their family losing its matriarch, former President Cory Aquino, Kris explained, "Last year, in denial kaming lahat. This year, dun namin na-feel talaga."
She continued her anecdotes by saying that she got sick, "sa nerbiyos." Going home at 9:30 the night before with a fever, she said she nevertheless woke up at 2 pm on the 26th feeling recovered and happy, presumably from the good box office showing of "Dalaw."
She also did not forget to congratulate the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for the success of the first day of the MMFF, noting its "record breaking opening."
As Boy congratulated the people behind this year's MMFF entries, Kris again butted in with her "additional kwento," beginning her story with, "Yesterday we went to cemetery to visit mom," followed by a trip to the grocery—activities she described as, "Nice, nice naman."
She then shared that she ate out with her kids and immediately added, "Tapos in fairness, sumunod si James [Yap, her estranged husband]. So happy 'yung dalawa. Tapos hiniram niya ['yung mga bata]. So Josh and Bimby slept with him last night. I was alone. Ganon pala ang feeling na alone… So natulog ako sa dressing room ko para hindi ko ma-feel na nag-iisa ako. And then ibabalik niya sa akin sa Monday, kasi may laro today. Kasi Bimby refused to leave without Kuya…"
Taking this cue, Toni asked Kris about a previous guesting in the show wherein she said she was going to have his family meet someone.
"Ayaw ni Noy," Kris readily answered. She apparently dropped the plan thereafter, joking now, "Natakot ako, o 'di ba?"
As she was alone, Boy asked Kris what she did to kill time, to which she responded that she watched a documentary about the life of Joan Rivers, and saw Julia Roberts' movie, "Eat Pray Love," again.
The wedding commentators
When KC extended congratulatory greetings to newlyweds Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid, Kris remarked that the sermon was "so beautiful."
Prompted by Boy to share the gist, Kris said the sermon was "about the journey of the relationship. But actually, more than the sermon, the vows they shared with each other [made it more beautiful]."
Raising her hands, she blurted that, "I have another funny kwento" about being at Regine and Ogie's wedding.
"Kami ni frienship, magkatabi—si Ai [Ai delas Alas]. So kinuha naming 'yung seat ng PSG sa likod ni Noy. Tapos si Noy, halfway through, tiningnan niya kami. Sabi niya, 'Alam mo, papa-set-up na ako ng camera at microphone sa harap ninyong dalawa dahil commentator kayo. Wala kayong ginawa kundi magdaldalan diyan.' Tapos sinabi ni Noy sa amin, 'Pwede ba… Wala na akong naintindihan sa sinabi ng pastor, sa sinabi ni Ogie at Regine dahil ultimo passport niyo napag-usapan niyo na.'"
The unstoppable Kris did not skip a beat and continued with an explanation. "Hindi kasi ganito po 'yon. Kasi 'di ba when you're married and you're annulling, you still carry the name.
Sabi niya, 'Ate, this Kristina just couldn't shut up. At si Ai-Ai, kasing-ingay niya. Wala talaga akong naintindihan.' Tapos, 'Giggle pa kayo ng giggle kasi may nahulog sa pool.'"
Apparently, the swimming pool near where the wedding ceremony was done was covered with a lot of flowers, and one male guest must have thought the area was also covered in Plexiglass (as was the area on top of the pool where Regine walked) so he fell into the pool when he took a step.
"I don't know him," Kris avered. "Tapos 'yung PSG ni Noy, inaahon siya. So sabi talaga ni Noy, 'Ultimo 'yung nahulog sa swimming pool pinagtawanan niyo.' Tapos sabi talaga ni Ai, 'Friendship, dapat ikaw 'yan!' Sabi ko, 'Korek!' Hindi kinaya ni Noy. Sabi niya, 'Kayong dalawa, pwede kayong magkaroon ng 24-hour talk show dahil ayaw niyong tumigil.' True."
And before they could kick off the first segment, Kris blurts out, "Na-miss niyo ako 'no?"
Two queens take over
Kris was also seen in a segment with Ai Ai, where they were described as "dalawang reynang nangunguna sa takilya"—Kris billed as the Queen of Philippine Horror Movies, Ai-Ai as the Queen of Comedy.
In a "Survivor"-type segment of sorts, the two out-witted, out-talked and tried to outlast each other as they discussed, again, their shenanigans at the Regine-Ogie wedding. Ai-Ai also joked, "Grupo kami ng commentators," which apparently included singer Jaya's group, seated behind the babbling twosome.
After sharing more of their funny anecdotes with the President, Kris wailed that Ai Ai drove her crazy for shutting off her phone. Kris revealed, "Up to 7 o'clock, I was calling, naka-patay ang phone. Sabi ko, 'My God, ang lakas ng movie mo. Wake up, wake up… answer me!'"
Apparently, Ai Ai opted to turn her phone off not only because she was nervous about the box office numbers, but also because it was Christmas Day. "Ayokong sumama ang loob ko," she noted, in case her movie didn't do so well.
Kris took over the conversation again, noting her strong friendship with Ai Ai and saying she even wished that they both be strong as their movies opened. As Ai Ai began to thank the moviegoers, Kris cut her speech to tell her to make an appeal to Rockwell to put her "Tanging Ina" movie in a theater in Power Plant Mall.
As Boy pointed out that Kris and Ai Ai were both strong contenders for a major award this year, Kris noted that she would rather see Ai Ai win—noting that if she did, the Aquino family might only receive criticisms for it.
Ai Ai, for her part, paid homage to King of Comedy, Dolphy—whose movie, "Father Jejemon," was said to be his last—as the segment drew to its end. In a teary-eyed message, she noted that Dolphy paved the way for other comedians that came after, and asked the moviegoers to support his movie, as well as all the films now screening at the MMFF.
