MANILA, DECEMBER 24, 2010 (MALAYA) Prices of cooking oil are up P2 per "lapad" bottle of 385 milliliters due to higher world prices of coconut oil and as Christmas shopping peaks.
Chicken may see up to 20 percent increase in prices due to higher demand.
Zenaida C. Maglaya, undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, said the Department of Agriculture reported a P10-increase in the prices of onions and tomatoes.
Maglaya reported that prices and supply of all other products, including "noche Buena" goods, remain stable.
Maglaya said a P5 to P10 price increase in chicken is normally seen shortly before Christmas but based on latest monitoring, wet market prices are at P130 to P140 per kilo and supermarket prices are at P117 to P120.
Maglaya said pork prices are still at P170 to P180.
"There are no problems or change in prices and supply or processed meat and milk," she said.
Most noche buena goods are within their suggested retail prices (SRPs) like ham, fruit cocktail and queso de bola while others like pasta, cheese and sauces are even below SRPs.
Fresh fruits are also abundant, Maglaya said, but demand is expected to surge before the New Year's Day.
