23.2 DEG C IN METRO: COLD MORNINGS HAVE ARRIVED! THE SEASON HAS BEGUN
MANILA, NOVEMBER 5, 2010 (MALAYA) COLD weather associated with the Christmas season has begun.
"Chilly temperatures can now be felt, especially at dawn, as the northeast monsoon started to affect the country," said weather forecaster Connie Rose Dadivas.
Dadivas said the cold, wintry winds blowing in from mainland China, which started prevailing last week, are expected to affect the country until first week of February.
She said the northeast monsoon normally peaks during December until mid-January.
She noted that the coldest part of the day will be between 4 and 5 a.m.
"It will get warmer after sunrise, probably around noon and the afternoon, but not that hot due to the northeast winds hovering during cold months," she added.
Dadivas said morning temperature in Metro Manila already dropped to 23.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while temperatures in some parts of extreme Northern Luzon ranged from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius in the past days.
The weather bureau expects temperatures in Luzon and Metro Manila to range between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius in the coming days, while temperature in Baguio City is predicted to drop as low as 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The coldest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was at 14.5 degrees Celsius on Jan. 11, 1914.
In Baguio City, the coldest temperature was at 6.3 degrees Celsius on Jan. 18, 1961. – Angela Lopez de Leon
Low-pressure area seen off Catanduanes By Helen Flores (The Philippine Star) Updated November 06, 2010 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - The weather bureau spotted yesterday a low-pressure area off Virac, Catanduanes that is expected to bring rains over most parts of Luzon until tomorrow.
Robert Sawi, senior weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the low-pressure area was spotted some 120 kilometers east southeast of Virac at 2 p.m. Yesterday.
Sawi said the low-pressure area is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone.
Pagasa said the low-pressure area is embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon and Visayas.
He said widespread rains would prevail over the eastern section of Southern Luzon and Samar, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
