MANILA, OCTOBER 7, 2010 (STAR) By Non Alquitran - A dead baby contained in a red plastic orinola (chamber pot) was found floating on the Marikina River last Monday.
Resident Conrado Cruz found the chamberpot near the riverbank in Barangay Barangka in Marikina.
"When I opened it, I thought (the baby) was a chicken because it was white," he said in Filipino.
Cruz said the baby girl appeared to be newly born, and that the mother could be living near the area.
The chamber pot was sealed with packing tape, he added.
Marikina police investigators said the baby's body was still warm and soft.
Police are determining whether the baby was aborted or if she died of natural causes.
The baby's body was turned over to the Crime Laboratory of the Philippine National Police for examination.
