LOWER your expectations that affairs of the heart of President Benigno Aquino
3rd will finally prosper this time even if he has a supposedly new love
interest, known psychic Danny Atienza said on Wednesday.
Atienza's prediction coincided with the 52nd birthday of President Aquino,
who marked the milestone with survivors of a recent devastating earthquake.
According to the psychic, the young and pretty Grace Lee, who is in the
spotlight for reportedly having caught the eye of the country's bachelor
President, should not hope too much for wedding bells to ring for her and her
supposed suitor.
"Hindi ko pa po nakikita na magkakaroon na tayo ng bagong First Lady.
Mananatili lamang na sweet sila sa isat-isa pero hindi ito pupunta sa kasalan [I
still do not see that we will finally have a new First Lady. Mr. Aquino and Miss
Lee will just remain sweet with each other but that will not end up in
marriage]," Atienza told the Ciudad Fernandina media forum at Club Filipino in
San Juan City (Metro Manila).
Lee, a native of South Korea who has lived in the Philippines since she was
10 years old after her parents decided to stay here for good, recently admitted
that she was dating the President.
Mr. Aquino first met Lee in June last year at the Korea Electric
Power Corp. in Cebu where she was a host of a program marking the inauguration
of a company plant there.
Atienza said that he could not pinpoint the reason why the President and Lee
tying the knot was not possible this year.
He seemed to have delivered on an earlier prediction that a major earthquake
would rattle the country in January based, he said, on moaning by people who
apparently had been buried alive.
A 6.9-magnitued quake shook the archipelago on Monday, hitting the hardest
Negros island in the Visayas region.
In making his fearless forecast that a trip to the altar will not happen for
Mr. Aquino and Lee, Atienza contradicted an earlier prediction by feng shui
expert Joseph Chau Kam Shin.
"He [the President] will have a love life if he is willing to get married . .
. The First Lady is coming out," Shin was quoted as saying.
Mr. Aquino's past dates included celebrity stylist Liz Uy and stockbroker Len
Lopez.
He has also been linked to Mayor Karen Villanueva of Bais City
(Negros Oriental province), actress Iza Calzado and Sabrina Chua of
Singapore-based Channel News Asia.
The President's former girlfriend, Councilor Shalani Soledad of Valenzuela
City (Metro Manila), also recently got married to Rep. Roman Romulo of Pasig
City also in (Metro Manila).
Mr. Aquino flew to Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, from
Manila then transferred shortly to a waiting helicopter that brought him to
Guihulngan City in the province, where 13 people died in landslides and 29
others went missing during the earthquake.
The President handed Mayor Ernesto Reyes of Guihulngan a P3.3-million check
for emergency livelihood program.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said that the total
damage to agriculture caused by the quake was P120.67 million, broken down as
follows: rice, P37.1 million; corn, P19.2 million; fisheries, P4.07 million; and
irrigation, P60.3 million.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (Region 7) has provided
2,000 family packs, 2,000 bottles of mineral water, boxes of canned goods,
tents, mats, blankets and mosquito nets to Negros Oriental, Malacañang said also
on Wednesday.
Mr. Aquino met with Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong of the First District of Negros
Oriental concerning four cities and municipalities in the district badly hit by
the earthquake, including Guihulngan City and the towns of La Libertad, Tayasan
and Jimalalud.
The lawmaker had arranged for delivery of 400 bags of rice to residents
there.
The President reassured Guihulngan folk that there will be jobs in work
programs for them and that engineers are on their way to Dumaguete to help in
rescue of possible survivors and rehabilitation of damaged roads and bridges.
He ordered personnel from the Department of Science and Technology to brief
the residents on seismic movements.
Gov. Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental, during Mr. Aquino's visit, appealed for
more help, saying that they needed more bottled water and packed foods.
Degamo thanked the President for spending his birthday with the people of
Negros and wished him good health.
In Manila, a group of women also on Wednesday trooped to Mendiola Bridge in
Manila to celebrate Mr. Aquino's birthday—not with a party, but a protest
action.

The group, which was composed of mothers, threw cakes at a picture of the
President to express their anger with the government.
Lana Linaban, the secretary-general of the women's group Gabriela, said that
their move aimed to show that government was doing nothing to help the poor in
coping with rising prices of basic commodities and oil products.
"On [Mr. Aquino's ] birthday, women have no gift but protest for the
President. We want to compel him to heed the demands of the suffering people,
not the interest of oil companies, big businesses and landlords," Linaban added.
"We want him to talk more about substantial economic and political agenda for
the people, not his usual [brownie point] rhetoric and [making-cute] antics
about his love life like that of an immature teenager," Linaban said, apparently
referring to the reported Aquino-Lee romance.
After their short program in Mendiola, the women proceeded to Carriedo Street
in Manila's Santa Cruz district to gather signatures for their petition against
the Oil Deregulation Law, the Expanded Value-Added Tax, Electric Power Industry
Reform Act, and the other laws that they said were behind the high prices of oil
products and consequently of goods and services.
The Manila Police District earlier deployed at least 70 policemen as well as
the District Public Safety Battalion to secure Malacanang from protesters.
